Hello All, Wanted to start a new thread ,did not know what to start. There are very learned people over here doing lovely things and answering etc etc. So I took to this. Daily will be posting one Vishnu Sahasranama Sloka with meaning in English. If I am not right in any of my posts , please bear with me, for I am not perfect Ok now it begins.....Om Gurubhyom Namah! There is only ONE God but He has different forms and names to satisfy the various kinds of minds and interests of human desire to perceive things of choice. Main aim of this leela of God (many forms) is to bring every jeevatma back to its SOURCE. The 1000 names were handed down to Yudhishthira by the famous warrior Bhishma who was on his death bed (of arrows) in the battlefield of Kurukshetra when Yudhishthira asks Bhishma the following questions: SLOKAM " kimekam daivatam loke kim vāpyekam parāyaṇamstuvantaḥ kam kamarcantaḥ prāpnuyurmānavāḥ śubhamko dharmaḥ sarva dharmāṇām bhavataḥ paramo mataḥkim japan mucyate jantuḥ janmasamsārabandhanāt " IN ENGLISH In this universe Who is the one refuge for all? Who is the greatest Lord in the world ? By eulogising whom can a person reach auspiciousness (peace and prosperity)? By worshipping whom can a person reach auspiciousness ? What is, in thy opinion, the Greatest Dharma of all Dharmas? By chanting whose name, can a "creature" proceed beyond the bonds of samsāra?
