    Hi All,

Heres a picture of the Diwali Sweets and Savouries we made at home here in Michigan. Every Diwali I attempt to make a new sweet and this year it was "Ashoka Halwa". It turned out great and became a big hit with the kids! Plus its healthy too as it has Moong dhal(payatham paruppu) which is packed with protein. The Halwa tastes heavenly when warmed each time its served. I designed the halwa with cashews to take the shape of a Diya denoting Diwali.:)

Along with Ashoka Halwa, we made Carrot-Cashew Halwa and Gulab Jamun to complete the Sweets variety. And for Kaaram, we made Mullu Thengozhal and Ribbon-Pakoda. There is a norm to make 5 or any odd number total of sweets and savories for Diwali and we rounded off with 5 :thumbsup

We made vegetable bhajjis too as is the tradition followed in Tamilian households the day before Diwali. It's fireworks-bright, with a bit of chili providing a small, pleasant explosion in the mouth :)

In my MIL's house, there is this tradition to make fresh potato chips on Diwali day, we made a slight change to this routine and made Raw Banana chips with a hint of chilli powder.

Also seen in the picture is Diwali Marundhu which plays an important role in digesting all these yummy goodies!

In the first picture below, from Top Left -
Ashoka Halwa(in the shape of a Diya), vegetable Bhajjis, Carrot-Cashew Halwa, Mullu Thengozhal, Deepavali Marundhu, Raw Banana chips, Gulab Jaamun, Ribbon-Pakoda.

I hope you all enjoy this virtual feast !! :)

    Hi.

At the outset, wishing all members of this great and wonderful virtual family the Indusladies founded by Malathy & Jey. Thank you both so much for this lively, recreative space.

Here I am with pics of my sweets and savouries. We always make only Traditional items as per the practice of my MIL.

My late MIL is an expert in Mysorepak and our whole family and circle of friends enjoy the same and my son strongly believes that no other sweet can match this one. So I too made Mysorepak which I feel as if my MIL was guiding me invisible for it has come out so yummy.

The other sweets are 7 Cup Cake and Kaju Burfi.

For savouries, I made Omappodi and Ribbon Pakoda. Please find the attachments. I hope you will enjoy them virtually.

    Dear Friends,
Happy Deepavali to all of you!
I made the traditional mixture for savoury and the No cook Apple Peda from Chitvish's designer sweets collection. The third is the sweet 'Ukkarai' traditionally made in my hometown, Trivandrum.
