    My dear Vijji
    A timely thread!

This is a question that bothers every blog writer. Why would anyone bother to keep writing if what he writes does not generate a lively discussion? There was a renowned Anglo-Irish Bishop by name George Berkeley who lived in the 18th Century who proposed that nothing existed if it had no observer! According to this theory, you and I exist only because there are people who can observe us.

Applying the same yardstick, a blog too exists only if it is read and commented upon by others! I can therefore understand the logic behind the demands made on readers to say something on what they read. It is a very legitimate demand but do we have a right to make such a demand? We go to a music concert. While a majority listen silently to the concert, a few make very audible noises of appreciation. Can we say that only the latter are appreciative and the silent ones are not? We must understand that writing a blog FB is as tough as writing a blog itself. Some may entirely agree with the contents of a blog but may lack the skill to express their appreciation.

It is necessary that the blog writers are very proactive to the FB writers. Make your replies to the FBs match the earnestness of the FBs. In fact, replies to FBs themselves must be interesting enough to invite further comments. One line acknowledgement to FBs may not support a lasting relationship with the FB writers.

Having said this, I must tell the writers that expecting a FB to what we write may inhibit our style. When we start writing without any expectations, our expressions achieve a sublime quality.

    Hi Vijji.
You have brought up a good subject to discuss, since this issue of FBs and Views is really a mystifying one. Of course no one can put a gun to any "viewer's" head and say she HAS to leave a comment ( favourable or unfavourable) but I also agree with most others here that FBs are important for the morale of the "post"er. But I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the Number of FBs., so long as even 4 or 5 show a reaction.
Speaking of my own experience, my very first post got exactly one FB. And I'm eternally grateful to Natpudan for coming in to say a word of welcome. Had it not been for that I would have been demoralised and considered quitting. I certainly would not have had the nerve to carry on talking to a wall ! My second post got three. So I was ok .

A couple of friends here have commented that they feel diffident to comment because they may not have anything new to contribute or they feel they cannot craft a brilliant line. I think we should come out of such self consciousness . This is only a social networking site meant for us to socialise , exchange views and let down hair in general and not a Sahitya Sammelan. Spontainety and colloquialism have its own charm and uses. If thoughts are communicated, it will do .( BTW, these emoticons come in so handy for expressing thoughts, dont they !)

    Dear Vijji

You know immediately after you wrote this post I read it but that time I did not know what reply to give. I am very careful while giving fbs because I think whether what I write will hurt someone. So I thought let me see what others have to say. Now everyone have given so nice fbs if I wrote I would not have given such good fbs. I also always wait for fbs feel good if I get more fbs but people have also told me that you write and be satisfied that you have written and dont wait for the fbs, and what all everyone has told here.

Anyway I am happy that you got so many fbs for this post of yours.

    love
    viji

    Hi Radhika ,

Will definitely try to better myself instead of worrying about FBs and views. When we write an exam ,we try to mug on important questions so that we can excel in our tests. This is my way of asking the stalwarts here to know how best to better our readership .Thanks for reading my first thread too .

    Dear K2S,
Number of views really does not say much, if you ask me. I don't mean to discourage anybody here. For example, if I were to start reading a post and after just a few lines, I decide to quit and go to something else for whatever the reason that maybe. The system might register my attempt as a VIEW, but did I actually view and read the post?

I never thought of this angle until you raised it here.
NO. Further, if any post catches me, then I tend to read it over and over and also read through all the fbs and their fbs. So I myself have contributed to the NUMBER OF VIEWS more than once isn't it? So how does one know that x number of views is actually equal to x number of people who have read it? I think a feedback is the only way of acknowledging.
I do feel the same about acknowlegement
do I post a feedback on all posts? No I don't, because I get intimidated by rich language. I am totally awed by it and would read it for sure, but anything I say in the form of feedback would sound pretty below average
    .
Well said, this happens to me too .I get so overawed reading a good post and fail to give FB too thinking the writer doesn't deserve an FB from me
So I keep quiet. That does not mean that the post has failed by any means. 8 out of 10 times, I have nothing constructive to say in my feedback, other than "Enjoyed, Great post" etc etc. I feel that is insufficient when compared to the effort put in by the writer and what others have posted in the form of their feedback. So rathar than making a fool of myself, I don't say anything at all. I do not know how many are like me...hopefully not many.

Count me in K2S,I am sailing in the same boat too.
But then, like Monifa said, we are here to relax and rejoice and share our thoughts in whatever way we like to do. It is a beautiful platform to be able to do that and meet and read many eminent writers from different corners of the world and be part of one big family. So lets continue to share and care and let us not allow the lack of fbs put us down.

Amen to that .Thanks a lot for your detailed analysis .I aprreciate it:bowdown

    Dear Soldier mallika,
Its good to see you here .True we shouldn't worry about fbs and let the readers decide what they like and enjoy our stay here .
So don't worry abt views or fbs. Just write and enjoy being here. Anyways we have fun in A-Z naa. I think nothing in IL can match that. Who knows may be Srini is even envied by some for making this thread this popular!
We sure have fun in A-Z and kudos to sriniketan for starting such a wonderful thread .Until iyerviji mentioned it in one of her snippets thread i din't know about it.Glad i did join the thread and get to chat with you all.
    Best wishes,
