In fact when I was in Atlanta last year, we had planned a week-end trip to DC. But my hosts had already planned for a trip the week after next when their parents were to visit them. So we did not want to drag them to such a long distance twice.
If not for anything else, at least for Gowri's vatha kuzhambu and sutta appalam we might consider visiting DC soon. Hope this Jan 20th, DC will be bustling with activity. If you happen to see any of them, please do write a detailed post.

Dear Sridhar,
Thank you for sharing the secrets of a writer! Don't worry, I do not intend to become one and if at all, I would like you to be my Guru on the nuances of good and expressive writing. But as you said the method of expression, the way of viewing things and the uniqueness the writer brings to the table is what makes all the difference and you have that expertise- to win the hearts in one sweep because your heart communicates.
Wish you all the best for this book.By the way, where is the book exhibition coming up? The same place as last year? Then it would be very close to my house and I can plan 2 or 3 visits.
I have started reading you Tao- Thanga Churangam. But I love your originals to the translated ones not because the translation is bad but because the originals are the true reflection of your heart.

Dear Malathi,
You know there is a fundamental difference between sridhar as an accountant and sridhar as a writer. As an accountant I jealously guard our firm's secrets. I don't let anybody know about any of our clients or suppliers or anything.
But as a writer I share all the information I have with every one. There was one senior writer (junior to me in age but senior to me in writing) who has won many awards for his short stories and novels. I was urging him to contact my publisher. He was a little hesitant at first. Then I told him that I was treated well by my publisher and he will also get the same kind of treatment.
Now he has come in. And two of his books are coming up this year. I was very happy.
So if you want any further information on writing - the techniques, the style, the content, the contacts any thing, please let me know.
The fair will start on 8th Jan and will be housed at St.Johns School opposite to Pachayappa's college, the same venue as in last year. That's pretty close to your place.
Choose an afternoon on a working day. Otherwise you will be seeing only the crowd and not the books.

Even when we are sitting there doing nothing, we do something. I still remember when I travelled by the day train to Chennai. I was reading a book, devouring the eatables provided by the catering service. And then around 11 30 when the train had left Villupuram, I closed the book. I did not eat anything. Almost for an hour I did nothing. I was not even sleeping. For the outside world I did nothing. Even I thought I did nothing. But somebody I read in the book was working deep inside me. When I came out of that state I scribbled something on the last page of that book -Curiious Lives by Richard Bach. And that scribbling later became A LOVE STORY serial which is now being made into a book. (Incidentally the book will be out before our silver jubiliee 3rd Feb)
So, DD, you are already doing something and very sooon that is going to come out in the open. All the best.

Thanks DD. One sure lesson I have learned both as a writer and as an accountant, more as the former, is that it is SHE who gives these sparks. And however hard we may work, we may not get anything like a spark, unless SHE decides it.

hello bas madam,
this discussion is about the 'writer's sparks' which SHE alone gives. But there might be other areas of help which SHE may decide to do through others. I am saying this surely because of a recent experience.

As I sat down with a mind full of love and happiness to write the next episode of Love All this Sathyam fiasco happened shaking the economy, the Indian IT industry to the very roots.

Even while entering the site in 2005 I had taken a vow not to write about anything connected with my profession - taxes, finance or accounts. And today for your sake I broke the vow and am posting a detailed account of the Sathyam Fiasco under the heading

Hi Sridhar Sir,

I had read about your Whirlwind project about a week ago but only now did I get time to write an FB for you.

First of all CONGRATULATIONS on your book on Barack Obama. The way your publisher chose you to write the book shows how good a writer you are and that is the biggest compliment.

About whatever topic you write, you never forget to include LOVE in it. All your writings are filled with LOVE and here again the very first page has a dedication to your wife which shows your LOVE towards her. It so nice of her to be there editing your works till late in the night without complaints and being there as your best friend, giving you support. She is a wonderful wife and the fact that even you are a wonderful husband is seen in the birthday gift that you chose for your wife. I think it is the most proper gift for her and nothing could have been better. She would have been really happy and her eyes might have been full of tears when she saw the page.

I do not understand Tamil and so I could not make out what you have written in the dedication. But as I have read your writings I know one thing for sure that it would be something full of LOVE. Do translate the dedication part for me in English whenever you get time.

Once again Congrats for your work.

Dear Amrita,
I have taken the liberty of increasing the size of the font of your post. I hope you wont' mind.

Thanks for the kind fb and the congratulatory message. You are right. My publisher choosing me from out of some 30 of the best writers of Tamilnadu he has at his disposal, is the best compliment he has paid to me.

I on my part has always remained very faithful to him. When some other publisher approached me I told him that unless the request to write comes from my publisher I won't touch the work.

You really made my day and my wife's by your kind, beautiful words.

I want to share with you two things, Amrita. First, one of our ILites and my friend Varloo has already visited the book fair at Chennai where my books are on display. She has published some pictures too in this thread.
