Re: Varalakshmi Puja at my place

Thanks Shel. Usually they keep the ambal's face and they decorate her and keep her on a kalash filled with rice, haldi, kumkum etc. You need to have this passed on to you by your ancestors to follow this kind of ritual. In my mom's place we used to have the face kept in a kalash and worshipped but my inlaws do not follow this culture and therefore I do it in this simple manner.
See other posts in this forum where people have done it. You will get a complete idea.

Thank you Sudha for your brief explanation.:)
I'm a Christian. I've never seen this before. In college days, they'll give us leave for varalakshmi pooja. But i've seen Navarathri, Vinayakar Chathurthi, Krishna jayanthi festivals at my friend's home. I also love the Krishnar padam they do during krishna jayanthi.:)

    varalakshmi viradham

we celebrate varalashmi viradham in a grand manner every year .
[IMG] Varalakshmi Vratam is an important pooja performed by many women in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka and some parts of Tamil Nadu. The Hindu festival going by the name 'Vara Lakshmi Vrata' is celebrated on the last Friday of the bright fortnight in the month of Ashadha, also called Adi,
The prescribed day for the pooja is the Friday of the month of Sravan in the fortnight known as Sukla paksha, preceding the full moon day.
which corresponds to the English months of July-August.
