Yes the news is out. The universities are vying for Asian and Middle eastern Markets. The famous among them include NYU, Carnegie Mellon, UMich and TAMU.

    The advantages being
    - Greater students pool and hence more money.
    - Availability of Resources like faculty and skill sets
    - From students side, no culture shock, no heavy expenses etc

    Demerits
-US taxpayers may not be able to pay the government for researches carried out elsewhere.
    - US competitiveness in education domain maybe affected
    - The relationship between US and that country will also be of concern.
    - The selection criteria will remain same, but to maintain same quality of experience, it maybe challenging for this universities.

    My opinion

    - Cons - The whole experience of coming to a new country, meeting new people, exposure to a multicultural environment will be missing.

    - Pros -A talented individual will not held back, just because he/she couldn't afford to travel or live in US, during his/her education period.

Also he/she can always come to US once education is over. They are internationally well-known universities after all.

This article was published in New York times and Houston Chronicle. As the articles say, already Qatar and Persian countries have this advantages, but will that be possible in China/India remains a question.

Fortunately the American universities have tie-ups with Indian Business schools, which makes the student globally available. Great Lakes Institute Of Management in Saidapet, Chennai is one such example.

I agree with all the points made. But its like having grown with six IITs, if you add few more. It does not really change demographics significantly. Perceptions will always remain. And its often best to have home grown universities ,than having Indian subidiary of foreign unit.
India being oldest education hub has all the capability. we just are not over corruption. Thats what eats all the growth and potential.

Home grown Universities are anytime good, given the disadvantages in my post.
But Ria, take ISB for instance. Home grown, but it is an independent international city by itself. These universities will just look the same when they come to India.

Corruption - This virus will hinder all domains of growth. Perhaps these univs might get discouraged. Good point.

Also the number of qualified students will be the same, but we are talking about the students who have all the potential to have a masters in an esteemed univeristy but gets discouraged given the money he/she has to spend. Trust me, there are millions of eligible and skilled candidates.

Will these universities show the same quality as in US remains the question.

Sorry for the late reply dear. Was thinking about it :)
