urgent: colostrum gone due to inducing methods and now c-sec how to feed baby????

Colostrum only gets produced once the womb is light...which means once the little one is out...it dosnt matter if normal or c-sec. When even your angel comes out, the body starts its preparation. Its not the case of use it or lose it....

Its amazing that body also works in demand supply way...the more baby demands the more he/she gets...no limit!

Secondly, I had a premie, she was in icu for 3 weeks. They take premie babies right away to icu after birth. I took so many visits each day for 2 weeks to make sure I keep the demand on charts. Otherwise the body assumes you dont need it. Just a suggestion, because you are worried about feeds, buy a pump. It comes very handy sometimes.

So, relax...go with the flow. Every thing is gonna be fine ;-)

Hi Roar, first i need to say im very sorry to hear your and your babies story, it must be too painfull to have a premie in ICU and that for such a long term, i dont even know how to be with her for some hours so cant imagine such pain.. hope she is doing totally fine now and you both are happy

Yes you are right, i already had a pump thats how we did it with the inducing... i recognised that the milk after she was born still had same color which changed after a while (consistency as well). Some nurses told again colostrum was just once there but thanks to all comments here i didnt get scared anymore and just had faith nothing bad had happend she seems healthy so far and is gaining weight so i think the milk was good enogh you are totally right too about the demand and supply point

Trust me, with my first son my BM was leaking noticeably for a week or so prior to the delivery. I too was panicked like you. But nothing happened. My son got what he wanted. I produced this thick yellowish BM for a day or two (don't remember rightly) and then it slowly turned to white colour normal BM.

Congrats on your bundle of joy.. Happy parenting.

Hi SGBV thats exactly what happend to me too! It looked totally yellowish and i produced it for like 2 or 3 days as well (even i hardly remember :hide: maybe even longer...) then it turned white. Thanks for reaffirming its alright and nothing to worry about i really felt guilty but thanks to all IL im calmed now

Hey Red Ruby...Congrats Girl!!I missed the thread earlier.Great news...Give a hug to the little one.

One of the reasons i didnt want a c-sec was longer recovery and another was that its sort of limiting the number of children (births) you can have, as many people say if you once had one c-sec you will have it again, and in my case i still dont understand really why it happend..

Don't worry Rad Ruby...that was true long time back...these days c-sections are smaller and one can easily have normal deliveries after that.My first one was a c-section.....the second one was normal.

Mine had a bit of a "sucking" problem initially which got worse after she was first time in incubator she is sometimes more licking or sucking really softly but not strongly enough, she is not opening mouth wide enough too, its due to easy milk flow of bottles it seems. I was told touse nipple shields in hospital and it turned out to be a problem for us now i have enough milk so its running into the shield and she more or less just has to close mouth to press out, sometimes she sucks more but if she has to suck harder she gets fussy and angry sometimes literally shouting at my breast.. i try to start with shield now more often and then put it away quickly to give breast, it works more or lessbut as i said she doesnt open mouth wide enough or sucks hard enough so it will take longer plus she tends to be lazy and if she is fuzzy im her pacifier.... i breastfeed her yesterday more or less the whole afternoon.. several hours.... if you have some suggestion or could explain how you did it i would be really thankfull

Sweety...don't worry.This is very common in babies that get the bottle early on...they become lazy.Besides the baby can only drink as much as the tummy allows.Just keep at it.She will become a champion sucker soon.

Mine didn't take to the breast for a week...I would stay awake whole night trying to get get to latch on...but once she started,there was no going back.She was a voracious breast milk baby till I forced her to stop once I conceived the second one....I bet yours will take to the breast soon.Just keep trying .....hugsmiley
