    The first time in the history of the United Nations, 128 countries (9 in favor and 35 abstention) voted against the decision of the United States to move their Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. Even though the President of the United States agreed to hold that decision for a period of six months, the decision is perceived as tacit approval to give away Jerusalem to the Israelis. Jerusalem has been a holy place for Jews, Christians and Muslims for years and it has been a disputed land forever.

    Several Western countries (US included) have in the past agreed that there must be two state solution in Mideast with Israelis and Palestinians living peacefully in their respective land with East Jerusalem as capital of Palestinians and West Jerusalem as capital of Israelis. The President of the United States made a unilateral decision without any discussions with the parties involved or not even the allies of the US. The US Ambassador to the UN, Nikky Haley categorically announced that she would be making notes of the countries voting against their decision and the President of the United States announced that aids provided to those who vote against will be withdrawn. It is a pathetic foreign policy decision I have ever seen made by a US President in my lifetime.

    Afghanistan, China, Egypt, India, Iraq, Jordan, Pakistan, Russia and Saudi Arabia are among the countries voted against moving the US embassy to Jerusalem. At present the US army is present in both Afghanistan and Iraq (recipients of the US aid) fighting the Al-Qaeda and ISIS terrorist organizations respectively. The largest recipient of the US aids are Egypt and Jordan, the two countries that make significant contribution for the stability in the Mideast peace process. The rest listed above are considered by the present administration as most friendly nations. Most, if not all, of the Western countries voted against the US decision to move their Embassy to Jerusalem. Australia abstained from voting. Canada and Mexico decided not to vote due to other reasons and perhaps didn’t want to antagonize the neighboring country publicly.

    It is a shame that while celebrating the elimination of ISIS from their presence both in Iraq and Syria, the new administration is making a bad decision to unite them back again elsewhere. Palestinian President has already categorically declared that United States has lost its right to participate in peace process between Israel and Palestine and they will not welcome any peace process initiated by the US going forward which hands over the leadership to the China, Russia and Western European countries. People are protesting in the streets all over the world against this US decision.

    Constant criticism of Iran nuclear deal by the President of the United States negotiated by his predecessor along with other Western European allies and his threat that any attempt by North Korea to threaten the security of the United States will be met with fire and fury has worsened the situation for many of the allies including Israel, Japan and South Korea. There are nearly 30,000 US soldiers present in South Korea now and a few Republican Senators are already calling to pull out the families of the soldiers from South Korean territory.

    Who can tell the US President that being a super power is not about bullying everyone around the world to bow before the United States but to earn the respect of all the countries around the world by engaging in establish peace around the nation? America was built with pain-staking effort for over 240 years and people from all over the world migrated to this country with a lot of hope making it a congregation of the entire world population living in peace under one roof. If this experiment worked well, of course, with a few hiccups, the world peace must be a possible goal. Eventually, the economic and military power will not come to the rescue of the United States. Even the previous world wars were fought in collaboration with many countries with millions sacrificing their lives against tyranny. Will quixotic attitude of the leader of the free world bring WWIII? Hopefully, other sensible nations will prevent such effort and only time will tell what would happen. Let us keep our fingers crossed. American people will have blood in their hands if something goes wrong in the world for electing a wrong leader for the free world.

    True. World peace is important. USA can help in creating world peace being a super power nation. Hope USA president understands this. I wonder why many nations fear USA rather than being friendly and advice the president when he takes not friendly decisions. USA too depends on other nations for its economic activity like USA imports many goods from different nations, it has MNC all over the world(Globalisation effect) So all nations have a say during such situations.

    @Sindamani,

    Higher the position, one needs to be humble is not only applicable to the human beings but also to the nations. If the US is #1 economy in the world and the only super power, that is when the US needs to work towards peace in the world and help countries who are in dire need of the service from the US. They shouldn't be doing actions that would destabilize peace anywhere in the world. The US needs to be consultative with allies in making such major decisions. The current President not only made a unilateral decision but also threatened those who are opposed to their decision. The President needs to realize that as much as other countries need the US, the US needs them as well. It is a global village now and no one country can function independently without the collaboration with other countries.

    Exactly. USA needs other countries to import many necessary things. USA is opening many multi national companies world wide especially developing nations and she is using their human resource. I wonder why the president is not working towards world peace.
