Ulutham paruppu sadham/ urad dhal rice

    A healthy and quick receipe which I prepare frequently..Especially for ladies it gives lot of strength to the bones..
    Required ingredients :
    Urad dhal with skin 1/4 cup
    Rice 3/4 cup
    Water 2 - 2 1/5 cups
    Oil 3 spoons ( I prefer gingerly oil )
    Jeera 1 spoon
    Fenugreek seeds - little
    Garlic 4 - 7 crushed
    Hing - a pinch
    Turmeric - a pinch
    Salt as per taste
    Curry leaves
    Green chilli 1
    Red chilli powder - 1/2 spoon


    Heat your pressure cooker with oil, add jeera, hing, fenugreek,crushed garlic,green chilli,curry leaves one by one..sauté it for a minute..now add water..bring it a boil, now add turmeric and little red chilli powder..add salt..give a taste test at this point..now it is time to add rice and dhal..you can even soak it for 1/2 hour or you can add it directly..if you soak the rice and dhal..the cooking time gets reduced..now listen to 2 or 3 whistles..switch off the stove..wait for ten more minutes for the steam to escape and now your urad dhal rice is ready to be served..
    note : you can also use skinless urad dhal..but the authentic way of preparing is with black skin urad dhal..
