Using hashtags in private profiles is a waste. Either they aren't aware of the purpose or they do it to look "cool" .
Having said that I myself use hash tags in my private instagram account. Because I want to look cool . I want my follower friends to know that I can use cool hasgtags

Ok my previous reply was to the original question !!

Fact: The tags would work in the future too. Any friends they add later would also be able to see them!

They probably don't understand the access issues fully - and tag it thinking it will be seen by people outside their group.

OK.. I think I get it now. People want their gajar halwa post and Indian dessert to celebrate Umrican event to be seen by as many as possible, not just among their friends circle. Maybe even Kamala Harris unwinding after the taxing inauguration will see their post as she updates the "VP elect" to "VP" in profile.

    OK.

They do? Oh my... isn't that risky? I only talk with guests I know about guests we both know. There is an unwritten contract that after we wash our hands post dinner and wipe with the stiff paper napkins, the talk would be forgotten.

Aah.. You have a good point here. It is easy and safe to compliment what is sure to have no negative aspect to it at all.

Kind of sad ... to think that people feel they have to do this to feel better ... never miss an opportunity to be seen, heard or acknowledged. Though .. some might say I am like that here in IL.. Yikes.

Is is possible in FB to define the hashtags one is currently following?

A friend once told me to send her my DD's IG. I honestly thought IG only meant Indira Gandhi... Lord..it was such a humbling moment. More humbling than when a few weeks into the lockdown, I held up the line at a drive through as I didn't know how to use Google Pay. Luckily I didn't fumble. The fear of dropping the phone from the car window (and the beeg lecture from we-know-who) was bigger than the fear of ticking off people in cars behind me.

You are indeed a millennial. :tonguewink:

Yes, probably they don't understand the access levels...

Even in my 20 member classmates whatsapp group they use hashtags.

Tell me about this! How hard can it be to use the correct hashtag? Very hard apparently even for long time members. On a group I can't name here due to #anonymityissues, an extremely popular cooking group, I am called the hashtag police. I just reminded a few members in the time when the admins (India time zone) were asleep. No good deed goes unpunished.

    A Strong NO!

IL is the collective wisdom of Indian ladies! It is much much more than social media hashtags!

It is a way to learn, to contribute, to make a difference to people's lives with our own personal experiences!

I tell my students' parents - collection of data is information, sequencing and association of information is knowledge - you can find these in books, internet, Google.
But WISDOM comes from vast knowledge and EXPERIENCE and debates and discussions!

This is the currency of the future. So many knowledge management systems in the past 2 decades have tried to create wisdom, So many Artificial intelligence algorithms have tried that - neural networks, fuzzy logic, machine learning, prediction algorithms, statistical analysis, business intelligences - so many names!

But they are unable to replicate this human trait of WISDOM & IDEA GENERATION - solving new problems when you have a lot of experience!

So - once again - you are generating ideas & contributing to the collective wisdom of Indusladies!

    Keep smiling
    HR

You are very kind, HR. Thank you.

But I am truly torn on my response to this compliment. On the one hand, I have a resolution about Accepting A Compliment Gracefully and OTOH I feel most of what I dish out is almost a random fetch from the Agglomeration Of Relationship Forum Advice's. :pensive: :anguished::expressionless::frowning:
