Planning a trip to Hawaii with kids next month(July). Going from East Coast to Hawaii. This will be is guard trip to Hawaii and we are planning for 8-9 days including flight travel. Any recommendations for islands and activities to do in the Islands? Is Maui good for first timers? Any must see places in Maui and nearby islands?
To visit archipelago, one must hv born under super star. To escape from cold harsh weather prevailing in US now, Your family & u are lucky to have chosen to visit this group of eight islets . I can suggest you to take sun glasses, a Hawaii hat picked up from e-bay; enjoy swimming in warm sea at 88°f. This month July is ok though June is preferred when there is likelihood of less rain. CRUISE ONE WAY from Sanfransisco or Calif is also an enjoyable travel.
We have visited Hawaii 5 years ago. As we live near Los Angeles, we flew to Honolulu. I was amazed on seeing the shopping areas in Honolulu, because it is like Newyork`s 5th avenue shops. In Honolulu you can visit USS Arizona and Diamond head state monument. If you hike over the Diamond head, you can watch the spectacular view of the pacific ocean. Expect burning heat and the heavy crowds in the capital Honolulu. From there we went to Maui island in a small flight. There don`t miss to go to HANA HIGHWAY. We had a rental car to go Hana highway. Surely, that greenery is unpolluted and serene. Beaches are very clean and pictureaque. Black sand beach is very famous.You can see the whole black sand due to the volcanic eruption. Still I wish I should have spent more time exploring the black sand beach. We went with another family, so packed up early. Enjoy your trip and hope my tips will help.
Maui is beyond gorgeous.. I went their 15 years back though.. Waikiki beach and helicopter tours,blue beaches etc is brilliant..paradise on earth.. Also they had some luau in the hotel… Dress in nice summer outfits and colorful,pack few swimsuits and sunscreen a must.. we went to see the volcano destroyed some crater place which was 10000 ft above and the views were so beautiful..Hana Highway!!!

Reading through feedbacks had given a vicarious enjoyment for me. I could imagine volcano erupting throwing towering billowing black smog that turns beach sand into black.
@gknew Congratulations on your upcoming trip! You must be super-excited It goes without saying, don't let lot of people know of your trip till AFTER you return. If possible, please share photos.

Thank you so much Anika for these tips. About the summer dresses, I never wear shorts because of me being overweight and I have some varicose veins on my calf and behind the knee. So I just avoid wearing shorts and always cover my legs. Is wearing maxi or Capri shorts with tanks will be a good outfit for summer there? I gained lots of weight recently and avoiding most of the outfits. Just dressing up like oldies
