    Hahaha. Seems they properly touched your feet and didn't just do gesture to touch it. Is it?

    @AditiShining

    It is traditional in our families to prostrate before the elders not necessarily the parents or inlaws but every other elder members of the family. Particularly, during wedding or other ceremonies those who are performing the events used to seek blessings from all the elders in the family that too after handing over two coconuts soaked in turmeric one by one. Nowadays, most elders stand together so that the couple could take blessings from everyone in one attempt. However, it is a practice to take blessings from elder family members during festival days, birthdays, marriage anniversary, and when one is leaving home or returning home after a visit. Even when we go for exams, we used to seek blessings from the elders.

    If I end up visiting any senior members of IL during my visit to India, I would definitely seek their blessings before leaving their respective homes. My wife is very particular about that tradition and I simply follow her cue.

    @AditiShining,

    Generally, we seek blessings from family members who are at least 7-8 years older if not, a generation above us. I have not seen people taking blessings from people in the same age group. Sometimes, a brother could be 3-4 years older than a man but his brother's wife may be younger than him. Generally, it is considered the status of being married to an older brother gives the man's SIL to bless the man. It gets too complex in such situations. It is also extremely important that we prostrate to people who are likely to bless us with good life.
