Hi, I am 18 weeks pregnant now and for the past 1 week was struggling with tooth ache. In Jan'11 also I have got tooth ache in the same tooth and dentist advised me to remove that. Since my due date was nearer i thought to confirm whether I am pregnant. After that I didnt get pain so I didnt go afterthat. Now for the past 1 week, am having this pain and couldnt even sleep properly. When i checked with dentist she told me to get fitness report from my gync and then she can extract. Since am in 5th month she said it will not be a problem. But am afraid of doing it since we need to take antibiotic after extracting. Friends, suggest me whether I can go ahead with extracting.. anyone had this kind of situation..
get a fitness certificate from your dentist and go to a specialist , an oral and maxillofacial surgeon ... you ll be safe . dont worry about the antibiotics ,the dentist would be careful as you have informed about your pregnancy . 5th month is quite safe for dental procedures . but, Xray exposure should be avoided. dont delay the treatment , because when in third trimester , dental treatment is not advised . so ,go ahead .
Hi, Cant say anything in specific about the medical part but i had a similar problem in my 8th month of pregnancy..... Was given antibiotics and anesthesia for tooth extraction, since the dentist was aware he prescribed accordingly.....yet he asked me to reconfirm from gyneac if i had doubts.......all went well touchwood. So i guess take a call if u cant bear it anymore then consult both n get it extracted.........all will be fine dont stress over it sonu
Hi I had 2 of my teeth extracted when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I was also asked to get a certificate from my gyanec just to confirm that the pregnancy is without complications and whether you are allergic to penicillin etc. It is advised to get any dental procedure done in the second trimester as the minimal X-Ray exposure is fine at that time since the baby's organs are reasonably developed. They do not recommend doing it in the 3rd trimester because you shouldn't like on your back for too long. They will make you wear a lead jacket through which the X-Ray can't penetrate. And as others have said, the dentist will take all the necessary precautions knowing that you are pregnant. I took the antibiotic and for the pain, I was able to get by with just acetaminophen, which is considered safe to take during pregnancy. All the best.
