    Hi All,

Any of u or ur kids have undergone tonsild/ adenoid surgery ?
My DS is 3 yrs old and He has swollen tonsils and gets recurrent tonsilitis and fever very very frequently.
Dr says, if this continues for a year or so, he will have to undergo surgery.
Now I have a few doubts reg this:

    1) Is it mandatory to get the adenoid also removed during tonsils surgery ?
    2) I have heard that once tonsils / adenoid is removed, children tend to put too much weight and get plumply. Is this true ?
    3) This surgery might cause horomone imbalance in kids.

Pls let me know whatever u all know abt this.

    Very worried and curious :(

    Thanks.

    hi,

we did this surgery for my daughter when she was 3.5 years old. she had both swollen tonsils and enlarged adenoids. Our ENT recommended us to do only adenoids as some kids may while some may not overcome tonsils. So we just did adenoids hoping she would overcome it. She still has enlarged tonsils, but the recurrence of infection/cold has decreased considerably after the surgery. Even if she gets sick, we do not give her any medicines as we used to prior to the surgery and she fights it naturally and is fine.

My sister had her tonsils surgery when she was 4 years old (2 surgeries because the stitches in the first one ruptured). Every week she would have cold/cough/fever which stopped after the surgery was completed. She did not become fat/plump immediately. She did put on weight several years later (family genes) which she lost with exercise.

    Hi,

Even I had same problem very recently. I did not undergo surgery instead I took ayurveda medicines. It helped a lot. But still I do not eat any cold items.
