You can cauliflower ,mooli, aloo parathas.Children love peas pulao .Add a pinch of pepper powder and little of butter and cheese to it .No need to add chilly powder. You can stuff bread with boiled aloo. You can make green chutney mildly spiced and spread it on bread along with butter.Another combination would be baby corn with carrots.Cut them fine, roast it and spread it on top of bread.Sweet corn with cheese would be a nice combination.Dhoklas can be given. You can add peas and grated carrot to it.

how abt stirfried idlis, i have written hereas a thread , but for the kiddos i think u need to go slow on the spices here, just add cabbage and carrot, with a little white pepper and now cut the idlis to eatable chunk size and in a little oil add the garlic tomato sauce once it comes up, add the veggies and stir for sometime one tsp of soya sauce would do, for the two of them or a little more if the quantity is to be so, now add the idlis and mix well, add salt, ajinomotto is optional as it affects the nervous system ..garnish with a little spring onions and packup...sunkan

    Mi Mythrae,
I was also looking for ideas and came across your thread.
    I have few questions:
won't dosa/idly get dry by noon time?
My son loves dosas, but not sure if they will dry up by noon. (there is no microwave in the class) Also, it looks like everyone eats with a spoon, so he feels odd to eat with hand.
He is not fond of idlies, but mini idlies might click. how do you make mini idli's? do you have a separate cooker for that? or do you slice it out? I have to try sunkan's recipe for the idly.

Other items I give for lunch are semiya uppuma/rice and poriyal mixed/maggi noddles with veggies/nuggets/cheese sandwich.

    thanks,
    Mythili

I do have the same problem with chappathis/parathas - even if I add oil, they become dry and hard when cold.

    Hi mythili,

coat a little oil or ghee on the idlis and dosas...dosas cut into bite size pieces..which he can pick it out with spoon/fork..

Shanvy, your right. Otherwise, its too dry in the afternoon.

Mythili, for chapathis, try the following recipe.

add little salt and 2 tablespoon oil to any "Chakki fresh Atta" variety. Knead, Roll and put in hot tawa. When you see little puffing, immediately glaze very little oil and turn the chapathi and again glaze with very little oil. press a little until it puffs a little. immediately, take out from heat. These chapathis remain soft all day. No microwaving also necessary. Chapathis to remain soft, depends on what brand of flour you use. I use ashirvad or pillsbury. Try this and your child will love the soft chapathis for the afternoon.

Thanks Mythreyee for the recipe for preparing soft chappathis.
I did not use oil in my dough and no wonder my chappathi's come hard even few minutes after cooking.

I will definitely try it out and let you know.
    Regards,
    Mythili
