Dear Chithra, When you have some time, please could you explain the rituals to be followed for Punyajanam function? Also, had a doubt.. One of my friend's relatives gave birth to a child recently...her MIL told her that for 11 days, she / nobody should light lamp in the house or do pooja, due to 'impurity' factor. Only when the 'cleansing' ritual is done, this is possible. Is this belief correct in the first place? I thought that birth of baby is a very happy occasion and God should be thanked immediately.. Please could you clarify. Thanks and love Pavithra
Dear Pavithra, Please give me sometime. I will have to "consult" & write to you. But what you have written is strange !For "vriddhi", we don't go to temples, perform havans, but I think, lighting the lamp etc is allowed ! Love, Chithra. Though you have put the query to me, I think, anybody can feel free to answer this, please.
Thanks Chithra... will wait for your article IL-ites...as Chithra pointed out, could you also shed your thoughts on my query? My friend is a North Indian BTW...so wondering if this is prevalent in North mainly, as I have never come across this in South.. Cheers Pavithra
dear Pavi, In Kerala too we observe a few days' 'valaayma' at homes on the birth of a child. It is related to the impurities( physical) of the mother. just as we donot go to temples or light lamps during periods. these are all rituals of old ages.but definitely meaningful and sensible. regards...............suminanda
