    Removing Mascara

Remove mascara using TerraPlus.. Dilute 4 parts water to 1 part TerraPlus. Gently rub on and let it set 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse with 1/4 cup white vinegar to a quart of water. Air dry to make sure the stain is completely gone.

    TerraPlus

    Nail Polish Stains

Use a non-acetone fingernail polish remover. Dab on wait 30 minutes and rinse with vinegar and water. If the acetone fails to remove the polish, try some brake cleaner or cigarette lighter fluid. After the stain has been removed, dab on some liquid dish soap wait 10 minutes and rinse.

    Grease and Oil Stains

Grease and oil require an acid product or a concentrated orange cleaner to dissolve the sticky residue. Department stores carry one called DeSolvIt. Some of these products can contain petroleum distillates that can damage surfaces and discolor them as well.
Generously blot on the cleaner. Wait for an hour then blot to remove. Do not rub to remove, reapply the cleaner if necessary. Then apply liquid dish soap to remove the cleaner and rinse with vinegar and water.

    Wax Removing

Always place a candle on a candleholder. Candles sweat and leave stains on any hard surface. Never move a burning candle. Wait until the wax has solidified. Burn smokeless candles only. The soot from candles is quite difficult to remove. Soy candles do not put off smoke and usually do not contain lead wicks, which are toxic to your lungs.

Candlesticks: Place in the freezer for one to two hours. The wax chips right off.

Carpet, fabric or leather sofa and chairs:

Freeze the wax first with an ice cube and scrape off what you can with our Scrape It. Grab an all white paper towel. Set your hair dryer to the hottest setting and heat the wax wiping up the wax as it melts with the paper towel. Do not use an iron on carpet. Many of the carpets are made from Oliphen, which is plastic. The heat from the iron scorches the carpet. It cannot be repaired. A hair dryer works and is quite safe to use.

Clothing: Freeze the wax with ice. Chip off as much wax as possible with Scrape It. Place the clothing on top of a paper bag containing no printing. Then put an all white paper towel on top of the wax. Set the iron to medium and iron over the wax. The iron melts the wax into the paper towel. If you use a paper towel or bag with printing the heat from the iron sets the ink into the fabric.
Hard surface including wood furniture: Place a piece of all wax paper over the wax and set your hair dryer to high. The wax from the wax paper melts the wax and lifts it from the surface. If there is a stain remaining, use a remover found at most candle stores. Follow bottle directions. If the stain remains, it's permanent.
Treat the wood immediately with Wood Cleaner and Conditioner.

    Re: Tips'n'Tricks 4 Stain Removal

    Mold/Mildew Stains

Bathroom ceilings, tile, grout: First use our Stain Eraser for grout to remove the mold in the stone tile. Then use CleanEz to kill the mold. Alternately you can use 20% hydrogen peroxide found at medical supply stores. Spray on and leave the CleanEz or peroxide alone so it can kill the mold.

Musty smelling clothes can be hung in the sun to air out. If the clothes are colorfast fill the washer with cool water, add 1 cup of peroxide and allow to set 30 minutes. Wash and air-dry in the sun. Heat will set the smell of mold so air dry to make certain the mold has been completely killed.

Treating a home for mold can be dangerous. Generally it is safe but some molds can be deadly. If your home has flooded, or has mold building on outside walls -not the interior walls- call your insurance agent and have your home checked for toxic mold. Then call a professional janitorial service who specializes in removing molds.

Most janitorial supply store can recommend a good professional cleaning firm.

Wood: If possible place the piece of furniture in the sun for several day bringing the furniture inside at night. Again peroxide is the safest product to use for killing mold on wood. Mix a 50 - 50 solution of 3% peroxide to water, wipe on and rinse with a vinegar and water solution. Unfortunately the peroxide will bleach the wood. Sanding and refinishing the wood is the best treatment for moldy wood.

Patio furniture: Our CleanEz has been used very successfully by a boat detailer in Arkansas to remove dirt, grime and mold from the seats of boats. Use a stronger solution 10 parts water to one part CleanEz and clean your furniture with a sponge or gentle brush.

Decks, siding and roofs: The best method to remove mold on these surfaces is to rent a power washer. Then spray the deck with a 50 - 50 solution of 20% hydrogen peroxide (beauty supply stores carry it) and water to help prevent future mold buildup. For decks rinse well to remove the peroxide. Otherwise the deck will need to be stained, which may be necessary anyway.

    Blood Stains

Carpet immediately spray with straight hydrogen peroxide. Wait 30 to 45 seconds then blot. Repeat if necessary. Move the towel frequently to prevent spreading the stain. As the blood releases from the carpet fibers it will begin seeping deeper into the carpet. Blot continuously.

Clothing: flush the garment immediately with cool water. Then soak in cool water for 5 minutes. Rinse and spray on hydrogen peroxide if needed. Generally cool water will completely remove blood stains.
To remove bloodstains if the garment has gone through the dryer: soak the stain in straight hydrogen peroxide. Do not use regular household bleach. Rinse with a vinegar and water solution and again in cool water. Air dry. Always test a spot first for color fastness.

    Re: Tips'n'Tricks 4 Stain Removal

    Paint

CleanEz is not only safe to use on all surfaces to remove paint it also works far faster than turpentine. Turpentine generally removes paint stains on most surfaces. Do remember turpentine is difficult to remove from clothing and can spontaneously combust on a cloth of any kind. CleanEz is safe for most clothing types.

Always take every caution when disposing of cloths saturated with turpentine.
Blot on and wait 30 minutes to an hour for turpentine and only 5 to 6 minutes at the most for CleanEZ. Blot and repeat. Rinse with sudsy water and then vinegar and water for turpentine and only water for CleanEz.

Use Scrape It to scrape off what paint you can on a hard surface. Then apply the turpentine to finish removing the paint. Work outside or open and thoroughly ventilate the room.

On clothing try soaking in very hot water to soften the paint. Then immediately apply concentrated CleanEz and allow to set 30 minutes. It does work!

    Baby Clothes

Do not use chlorine bleach on baby clothing. It worsens the problem and irritates their skin.

Hydrogen peroxide removes baby formula from shirts and clothing as well as the yellowing in christening gowns. Mix a fifty-fifty solution of a 3% peroxide (found in drug and grocery stores) and water. Soak the clothes for 30 minutes and launder as normal. Air dry to make certain the stain is completely removed. Heat sets a stain.

If after soaking for 30 minutes the stain has not been completely removed pour the peroxide directly onto the stain. Soak another 30 minutes then launder as normal in cold water.

    Urine

Carpet: When urine hits the padding in carpet it spreads. What looks like a small stain on the surface is twice that large on the padding. Always treat an area two to three times as large as the surface stain. Otherwise the odor remains and the pet continues to return to the same spot. Head to the pet store for a bottle of Nature's Miracle, which is an enzyme product that not only gets rid of the stain but the odor as well. The enzymes "eat" the odor causing bacteria

Furniture: Unfortunately the urine soaks into the padding and it's generally best to replace the padding. If you have young ones at home, use a plastic table cloth and turn it fuzzy side up. When an accident occurs the fuzzy part catches the urine and the plastic side protects the couch.
First remove as much of the urine from the couch as you can with a wet or dry vac. Then soak the seat cushion with Nature's Miracle.

Mattresses: Again with small children, use a plastic cover to protect the mattress. Follow the instructions for furniture. Mattresses can be professionally cleaned for best results.

Clothing: Immediately soak in sudsy water with one half cup of vinegar and one fourth cup of baking soda added to the water. Rinse and air dry to make certain you completely removed the stain. Finally spray on CleanEz before laundering to finish removing the stain.

If odor still remains in your carpet, spray it with Pure Ayre for Home to remove the odor. Pure Ayre will not mask the odor, it will remove it permanently. It also removes a host of other odors and is even safe enough to spray in your dogs mouth to get rid of "doggie" breath!

Cleaning and Conditioning Leather and vinyl

Leather should regularly be cleaned and conditioned twice a year to keep it subtle and prevent cracking. Leather and Vinyl Cleaner both cleans and conditions leather and vinyl in one easy step. It is the only leather cleaner I tested that removes the soil from deep inside the crevices of leather or vinyl.
It will remove some ink, blue jean dye and most dirt and soils. Use CleanEz to remove mold, tar, oil or other difficult stains. Leather Care can then be diluted 5 parts water to 1 part Leather Care for weekly cleaning.

    Re: Tips'n'Tricks 4 Stain Removal

    Washing Clothes

Do your white clothes appear dingy even though you bleach them? Bleach causes the discoloration. Add one-half to 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide per regular washer. The first time allow the clothes to soak in the washer for 30 minutes. Then wash normally only use less detergent. White clothes return to their normal brightness and colored cloths perk up as well. Add one-fourth cup of baking soda to your washer for additional freshness.

Basics on laundry :Begin filling your washer with water (not for front loading machines.) Add your detergent and peroxide then the clothes. The detergent can't clean unless it dissolves.

If you are having problems with your clothing not coming clean one reason could be the detergent you use. Recently I found out most powdered detergent is saw dust that has been blown to turn white with a cleaner added. That is why towels you use to clean your car will scratch the surface and why towels turn "hard" after several washings. Switch to earth friendly detergents or liquid detergents and you should end the problem.

Fill your washing machine tub only three-fourths full with clothes. Clothes clean by the agitating action amongst themselves. Crowd them and this cleaning action comes to a halt. Pretreat most stains with CleanEz diluted 20 parts water to 1 part CleanEz. It's cheaper than prewash sprays, works better too.
Remember heat sets stains. Don't dry clothes unless the stain is gone.

    Food

Food never spills down your front unless you are out in public where it quickly makes a mockery of your front side. Should, that happen, head to the closest restroom. Gently dab a bit of liquid soap on the spot and resist the temptation to rub. Let the soap set. It may look funny until you get home, but the food stain comes right out.

If a favorite shirt has an old stain, soak it in peroxide and water for 30 minutes. It might surprise you and come out, even after going through the dryer.

Coffee, coke, mustard: CleanEz removes all food stains except red dye. Spray on the spot, wait 5 to 6 mintues and rinse in cool water. Air dry to make certain all the stain has been removed. Spray on just a bit more CleanEz if needed and launder.
Chocolate and oil: Immediately dab on TerraPlus and wait 5 to 6 minutes. Rinse and repeat if needed.

    Magic Marker

When the label reads permanent, that means permanent. Try spraying the spot with foaming shaving cream. Gel does not work but the cheaper brands of foaming shaving cream work just fine. Be sure to protect the work surface. Spray on, wait 30 minutes and rinse in cool water. If that has not lightened the spot then the stain may be permanent.

    Removing Ballpoint Ink

Remember if the ink stain is caused from a Gel Ink pen chances are the ink will not come off. These inks were formulated not to be acid washed off a check and are tougher than magic marker to remove.

Some cleaning experts may recommend using hair spray for the removal of ink. It contains alcohol, which is the ingredient that removes the ink. The other chemicals in hair spray could damage a fabric. Take caution should you decide to use hair spray on a stain.

Remove Ink: First try using straight rubbing alcohol. Dab on let it set a few minutes then blot with plain water. If that does not work then try foaming shaving cream. It is less likely to cause surface damage than hairspray.
Our Leather/Vinyl Cleaner and Conditioner safely removes ink from any leather or vinyl surface including clothing furniture and vehicle seats. The exception is gel ink and nothing removes that from any surface. Do be careful with gel ink pens.

Wood: Ink pens generally gouge the wood forcing the ink deep into the wood. Remember wood damages easily so use caution with rubbing alcohol. Allowing a liquid of any kind to linger on a wood surface could warp the wood.
Condition the wood after removing the ink with Wood Care. It will help restore the wood. Apply the wood treatment to the entire tabletop, not just the stained spot. Wood needs conditioning at least twice a year to keep it moisturized.

    Re: Tips'n'Tricks 4 Stain Removal

    Rust

Fabric, cloth furniture and carpet: Squeeze enough juice from a fresh lemon to thoroughly saturate the spot. Generously sprinkle on some salt and let that set 24 hours. Rinse with cool water and repeat is needed. Refresh the lemon juice once or twice during that time.

Metal surfaces: Treat metal immediately. It's easier to treat a small spot than to sand and repaint. There is nothing that will remove rust faster in metal than TerraPlus. Dilute 4 parts water to 1 part TerraPlus wait 5 minutes and rinse to remove.

    Soot

Fireplace fronts: Soot can be easily and safely removed with our TerraPlus and a good stiff bristled brush. Saturate the bricks thoroughly and wait 5 to 10 minutes. Then wash again with TerraPlus. Bricks are very porous and most cleaners saturate through the bricks. It takes a time or two to remove most of the soot.

Walls: Dry Sponge quickly removes soot from walls without leaving a residue or causing you to deal with messy liquids. The sponge is used dry and wiped across the wall. This is the same way professional cleaners wipe down walls after a house fire.

Furniture: First wipe the furniture with the Mary Moppins Dry Sponge. Use the sponge dry and keep moving it so as not to spread the soot to other parts of the couch.

Then clean the couch first with the Dry Sponge then with a foaming cleaner like foaming tub and tile cleaner testing an inconspicuous spot first. If your furniture is becoming dirty from soot, you might want to invest in some bath towels and cover the furniture. It's much easier and cheaper to wash towels than the couch.

    Removing Gum

Removing Gum depends on the surface you are treating. On more delicate surfaces like hard surface flooring or clothing. first freeze the gum with a cube of ice. Use Scrape It to chip away all you can. Repeat until most of the gum has been removed.

Anything remaining can be removed by applying undiluted CleanEz to the surface. Wait only 1 to 2 minutes and immediatly blot then rinse with 1/4 cup white vinegar per quart of water. I accidentally stepped in fresh gum on a road trip. The newest trick at rest stops is to drop gum right where you step into your car - so be careful when traveling.

Without realizing the gum was on my shoe I spread it all over the carpeting of my truck. Using the CleanEz concentrated on a damp cloth, I blotted it on waited about 2 minutes and it immediately came right out. It left no gum residue in my carpet.

    Perspiration Stains

Do not use this method on silk, wool or dry clean only fabrics. Always test a spot first for color fastness. Hydrogen peroxide is bleach, it's safe, but it is bleach and could discolor the fabric.

Often using household bleach only causes stains to worsen. Hydrogen peroxide will not cause those problems. If you use a 3% peroxide found at grocery and drug stores it can be used full strength. Often a 50 -50 solution of peroxide to water works just as well. If you use a 20 to 30% solution then dilute with water 1 part peroxide to 5 to 6 parts water.

Pour the peroxide on the stain and allow to set 30 minutes. Then wash as normal using cool water. Air dry to make sure the stain has been completely removed. Heat sets a stain making it difficult to remove. If the stain is still present after 30 minutes use the peroxide full strength.

If the shirt has odors as well as stains, then fill a sink with cool water adding 2 cups of peroxide and one-half cup of baking soda. Wait 30 minutes and launder.

    Re: Tips'n'Tricks 4 Bathroom

    Helpful Hints
    • Always keep an all-purpose cleaner and a sponge in the guest bath so you can sneak away and clean up when unexpected company shows up.
    • Keep a squeegee in the shower so everyone can wipe it down when they are done (this will help prevent mildew).
    • Steam helps to loosen build-up so why not clean while you're in there?
    • Disinfectant can be used on everything in the bath except the mirror.
    • Don't forget doorknobs and switchplates.
    Cleaning Shower Mats

Dip a stiff brush in a kerosene and warm water solution to clean bath and shower mats.

    Easy Bathroom Cleaning

Clean after a steamy bath or shower. The walls, fixtures, etc., will be much easier to clean because the steam will have loosened the dirt.

    Cleaning the Sink
    • For light stains, rub with a fresh cut lemon.
    • For dark stains (like rust) rub with a paste of borax and lemon juice.
    Bathtub Rings
    • To avoid bathtub rings, don't use oily bath preparations. Use a water softener if you live in a hard-water area. Rinse the tub immediately after bathing.
    • If a ring does form, wipe it off with undiluted ammonia (wear rubber gloves) or a wet sponge generously sprinkled with baking soda. Rinse clean and wipe dry. For a more stubborn stain, scour with automatic dishwashing detergent or rub with a cloth dipped in vinegar.

    Re: Tips'n'Tricks 4 Bathroom

    Cleaning with Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol will clean the caulking around bathtubs. It also shines chrome and glass. Liquid chlorine bleach (1/4 cup to one gallon) will also clean caulk.

    Cleaning Toilet Bowl
    • Clean the toilet bowl while you're away by pouring in 1/4 cup bleach and leaving it until you return.
    • Keep the toilet bowl ring-free by pouring a half-gallon of white vinegar in it once a month. Let it soak overnight before flushing.
    • Don't use bleach if you're already using a tank-held cleaner that's released when the toilet is flushed. The two may react chemically.
    • To avoid clogging and odors, pour one cup baking soda down the bowl weekly.
Getting to Dirt in the Corner

Can't get to that dirt in the corner? Make a pointed tool by cutting an old whisk broom at a 45 degree angle.

    Small Bathrooms

If you have a small bathroom or a tile entrance and don't have time to bother with a scrub bucket, just use an all purpose spray cleaner and a damp sponge for quick clean up.

    Mildew

To remove mildew from the corners of the tub, dip cotton balls in bleach and let them sit, when you finish cleaning the bath, remove cotton and rinse well. The mildew will be gone.

    Disinfectant

Clean with a disinfectant to kill germs. Everything in the bathroom except the mirror can be cleaned this way in just 3 or 4 minutes a day. Keep cleaners in bath for a quick job when unexpected company drops by.

    Shower Tile

Remove soap and hard water buildup on shower tile with tile cleaner. Then apply a good paste wax and buff with a dry cloth to deter future water spots.

    Air Freshener

For immediate air freshener in the bath, place a fabric softener sheet in the wastepaper basket or add a dab of fragrance on a light bulb. When the light is on, the heat releases the aroma.

    Freshen Drain

To freshen drain, pour 1/4 to 1/2 box of baking soda down the drain, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Cover drain tightly for a few minutes and flush with cold water.

    Shower Doors
    • Rub glass shower doors with a white vinegar-dampened sponge to remove soap residue.
    • To clean shower track door, pour full strength vinegar into the track, let soak for a few minutes, then rinse.
    • A coat of acrylic floor finish gives new shine to fiberglass shower doors and makes water spots disappear. Club soda will give new shine to your counter tops.
    Cleaning Shower Curtains
    • Before hanging shower curtains, soak in salt water solutions to prevent mildew.
    • To remove mildew, wash in hot soapy water, rub with lemon juice and let the shower curtain dry in the sun.
    • For plastic curtains, clean with laundry pre-wash spray. Spray along the top, letting it run down to cover the curtain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, then rinse it off.
    Sparkling Sink

Wipe a stainless steel sink with vinegar or a touch of oil on a cloth to make the sink sparkle.

How to effectively clean your bathroom

Ahh, the bathroom is dirty. This is one of the most dreaded tasks to undertake within the household..Scrubbing toilets and showers is really no one's idea of a great time, but nevertheless, it must be done.

Cleaning the bathroom doesn't have to be all that much work if it is done right. If you wait until your bathroom is totally scuzzy, yes it will take you longer than if you do a regular upkeep.

To get started, you should do a thorough cleaning of your bathroom. After this is done, all that will be necessary is regular upkeep and a good thorough cleaning once a month or so. Follow these simple steps to get you on your way to a cleaner bathroom. Have cleaners suited to clean the bathroom on hand and nearby.

It is good to have all the products you use in one central area so that you can just go to it and bring it with you through the house.

Start by cleaning up all the laundry in the bathroom. This would include dirty towels, clothes, and rugs. If you wish to wash your shower curtain, take that out of the bathroom as well. Wash rugs in washer and let air dry, same for the shower curtain.

Next, pick up any trash and sweep the floor. Save mopping for the last task.

Clean your counter tops and any mirrors next. Using a cleaner for mirrors works best to avoid streaking. Use an antibacterial cleaner for your countertops.

Next, clean the sink or sinks with antibacterial cleaner as well. This will insure that you rid the area of any bacteria that may be lingering. Shine the chrome of the faucets with a soft rag.

Clean the toilet next. Take bleach or pine oil and pour a cup or two into the basin of the toilet, let sit for a few minutes. In the meantime you can clean around the toilet.

Start with the tank and spray antibacterial cleaner, wipe clean. Work your way down, cleaning the lid, the seat, under the seat, and around the outside of the toilet.

After you are finished with that, take your toilet brush and scrub in and around the basin to clean. Flush.

Cleaning the bathtub or shower can be quite a chore. Depending on how dirty it is, spray a heavy-duty cleanser and let sit for a while. Go back and scrub until the residue, whether it is mildew, soap scum, or just dirt, until it comes clean.

Once this is accomplished, you can buy a cleaner that you spray after every use of the shower or bath to maintain freshness. Shine chrome with a soft rag. If you have a hairy drain, use a cotton swap to clean it out.

Wipe down walls and cabinets with a damp sponge and don't forget the door handles. It is a good idea to give the whole bathroom a once over with a disinfectant spray to kill any last germs.

Lastly, mop the floor. When it dries and your rugs are dry as well, you can lie them back down. Replace your shower curtain, too. And, don't forget to replace the toilet paper roll and keep a stock under the counter.

This may seem like lots of work, however, if you maintain every few days and do a thorough once over every month, it will seem easy.

To maintain; wipe down sinks after every use. Keep the toilet paper replaced. If toilet looks dirty, wipe it down with a paper towel and some cleaner. Rinse the tub after a bath and pick up laundry right away.

These simple steps can save you a lot of time and headaches. You'll thank yourself for doing it.
