We, as parents want our child(ren) to put his/her best efforts to do well academically. Is there a magic wand? Experts believe that right preparation can actually make the child more productive during the stressful examination period. Here are some tips and tricks which can help to boost your child's exam success.

    1. Nutrition

Your child must have a good balance of nutrition, exercise and relaxation which increases focus. Boost your child's brain by providing the nutrients it needs. Vitamin B, Iron, Protein, and Vitamin C are some of the essential nutrients to keep the brain alert. Spinach, wholegrains, eggs, nuts, kidney beans, green tea, fresh fruits, plain yogurt are some foods that activate the brain. Water is another super drink which will keep the energy levels high and helps for better focus.

    2. Adapt right time and right way.

See if your child is a night owl or an early riser. Make him choose the time that he is comfortable. Studying at the right time heightens productivity and there are less chances of feeling tired. Help your child to fix and agree on an absolute start time and a deadline to close the books and get to sleep or relax. Find out if your child can study better alone by himself or needs a partner(s). Adapting to the right environment can make the study session more effective.

    3. Study space

Make sure your the study space of your child is devoid of any distractions. Cell phones, TV, music system, computers, physical presence of a person during the study time are some of the major distractions for a child. Ensure they are eliminated from the study space. Encourage your child to use a diary to list down all those things that is soaking his/her time. Then work out a plan to manage them.

    4. Set goals and smaller milestones

Setting goals are extremely useful which helps the child to focus better. Help your child to put down the study goals for a session and break it down further with a task list. The tasks must be very specific which will make it easier to attain the smaller goals. Set a time-line or a date to accomplish the task. All the goals that are set should be realistic and reasonable for your child.

    5. Time Out

Continuous studying can be counter productive. Fix the time when your child need not study or set an alarm to stop and switch to something more relaxing. Deep breathing techniques, alternate tensing and relaxing the body muscles (from head to toe), visualization, calming music, yoga, reading light books are some ways that can help to relax those tensed nerves. Remember, relaxed body and mind can be more productive than an overworked brain.

    6. Study Methods

Figure out methods through which your child can retain information. Flashcards, visual imagery, use of keywords, acronyms, mnemonics are some useful techniques which help him/her to focus on key information.
