I think its both ways...meaning that films are a reflection of whats happening in the society. At the same time glorifying "drinking alcohol" in movies does effect the society adversely.

the girlygirl you are right. Movies these days show heroine drinking heavily ( Love aaj kaal comes to mind) and being drunk. I was so sad to see this image. That's not suppose to be role model for young females in India who are finding their independence and looking up to other successful females as role models. I know not all will see heroines as role models but still that's what they are seeing.

    Very nice post Dinny.
I am also saddened to see so many women falling prey to alcohol.somehow social drinking is seen as way of liberalization and being modern. I have myself faced questions, smirks and smiles on knowing that I don't drink. Many of my close friends do drink and they always say a glass of wine or beer won't hurt you. But not many know that alcohol effects are more harmful for women than men. And women get addicted to alcohol quickly even before they realize.
Yes , girls did drink when we were in school, but it was just one or two but now many youngster face social pressure to drink,my cousin who is studying in very prestigious army public school told at many of their friends b day, they serve beer etc!
I also agree with girly girl that our Hindi films are kind of promoting it, yes you can say that maybe they are showing society changes but then many liberating actress who are shown to be drinking are copied by many girls from small cities.these gir just idolise deepikas and anukshas and think its right what ever they do.
And not only drinking I can see a lot of women taking up smoking also just as to look cool.

dont know if its right or wrong. but think i can answer this.

heehhe the after effects are fun. like have you ever been on a giant wheel in a carnival? ...imaging the butterflies-in-stomach feelign you get when you are coming down and ggoing up.its similar.

you lie down .....and you can feell.......you are ebing taken up by a giant bird ...there u gogin up in the sky up in the sky uuuuppp.............and then again.......you are faliing down ...falling down and down and down..............and you move uncomforotably on the bed.......the "hgih" you get. its nice. feels nice. :biggrin2:

similar are the effects of gaanja...dont know wots it calle din englis....hmm mariuajana? dont know. heheheif you smiling.you keep smiling for some itme. laughing.

well these are first times though. once you becomea a senior you wont experience these and you loose interest then or u could go to other extreme i..e, consume more to get experience this stuff.

    hehehe. thats the story :-D

but thats all in our mind. Also, in movies they show that when you get drunk and out of hosh then "you get emotional n talk  or you talk wots in ur heart , or you get to act crazy like hero/heroines" ...some get that fixed in mind and just a whiff of the alochol.......not even drunk....just the smell...they behave funny :biggrin2:

Female drinking is not something new.in many parts of India local liquor is /was brewed & both gender consumed it without any prejudice and have been doing it for centuries.

so if someone consumes it for just sake of depicting modern image they are seriously misguided .

Personally,I have not seen many woman drinking & the few that did always controlled their quantity......same with men.many drink socially but very few get drunk.I have never felt any pressure to drink & here in Africa there is a lots of socialising going around .

many said that the young generation is influenced by movie but then movies across generation has been showing actresses drinking & I feel only very few if any has been influenced.'Chaalbaaz' movie with Sridevi was my favourite movie where she is shown drinking but it didnot inspire me to drink............or Priety Jinta in 'Kya Kehana ' was unmarried but very brave mother........a sort of role model but who really wanted to experiment being unmarried mother & facing the society.............because we all had thinking brain which told us that even though we may like this movie but its really not worth emulating.

our mothers saw movies like'Julie',Bobbie & how many followed the heriones blindly(except on clothes)

so any teen girl or boy who is drinking & making mess of his life should know better by this stage .teens want to belong & may do certain things under peer pressure but still they need to take responsibility of their own acts.
Personally as parents we need to make them aware of the negatives of society & educate them well but if they still want to experiment the its their life.

    that is also true dinny.

that is why sometimes like ekta kapoor's saas bahu serials...i know what she shows is sometimes an exaggeration, but alteast she is passing a good message to society.

she shows all her bahus to be non smoker and non drinker. they follow all religious activities, infact she does not even show them eating meat, even then they are shown to be modern and as capable as their husbands.

it is known that what we see and perceive, has an impact on us, and thus, i think it has a positive effect on people.

    :rotfl
This song comes close to what you described
Slowly Slowly Song - Go Goa Gone ft. Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Vir Das & Anand Tiwari - YouTube

And thanks for describing what it "feels" like after getting drunk. Its not that i had not heard about it.But still drinking that yuckkk tasting thing just to feel "light headed" is too much ....yuckkkk

But on a serious note you are right when the body gets used to small quantities of drugs then body needs a heavier dose of drugs to get that "high"

Thanks Dinny for a thought provoking post....

Drinking among women has now been a way show that they are social enough and so go for it. Its a false image that every women who drinks take it. Drinking has lot of effects especially on our hormones as women body and their body is tender enough and when one simple stress could hamper the whole menstrual cycle why cant the alcohol that goings into your blood to your brain nerves and loose your senses will affect the entire nervous system doesn't it......

Westernisation doesn't mean following drinking and cigar and sex activity its knowing their way of forward thinking. Why not men drink ?? can I drink??? is that the way?? It has become like a show-off and challenging the opposite sex to show their powers.......So that I don't support men can drink?? see occasional responsible drinking for a relaxation is fine I would say but drinking like till your food pipe is full is bad....

And drinking from the teenage is utter idiotism. These small buds need to hold our future generations and society. But Its going a waste I would say.....Really I am scared of the society in future.....
