THE WEDDING NIGHT It was my special day And I dressed with special care… I applied an extra coat of kohl… And a dash of lipstick… I draped myself with a bright blue silk saree I saw my reflection in the mirror I thought of my beloved With whom I would merge in a little while…. His beautiful form and his bewitching smile The happiness of the imminent union Made my face glow Making my being quiver in anticipation As I hung down my head in shyness… I was deliriously happy But people around me were crying At the inevitable farewell… How could I console them.. My beloved was waiting… With his arms extended.. His eyes filled with yearning And his smile dripping of love He was decked in all finery Sitting on the decorated bed.. To celebrate our wedding night.. I stepped in with trepidation My body trembling in fear He held me in his arms Soothing my nerves and making me secure I shed my physical body.. To merge with Him.. To celebrate the union Of the soul with the divine…. What a liberation, A worthy cause for celebration! And I was reminded of my Rumi who roared “Death is the wedding night of the soul.” -Lalitha Shivaguru
Nice one Lalitha. I could remember one of Sridhar's lovely and well acclaimed post written earlier too. Right blend of emotions you portrayed. Thanks for sharing. -rgs
:WOW................... Such a beautiful and asthetic way of expressing a significant moment in ones lifetime.......... And also how it has been corelated to the soul meeting with god on completion of its journey in this world........ Magnificent............
Wow, very well written...! Especially the last line - Death is the wedding night of the soul.... that was simply fantastic....! :thumbsup
Dear Rgs, I should say you have an excellent memory. Yes, Sridhar had written a wonderful blog with the same title too.. It was he who introduce Rumi to me... and those words are of Rumi's.. Thanks a lot for those comments which made my day.
Dear Quebec, Thanks a lot for those lovely comments... Yes the final journey is as important as the life we led here in this world.. and the soul merging with the divine is the most wonderful journey one can undertake...
