Dear Cheeniya sir, with that kind of an opening paragraph if you think you have trouble, imagine my plight! This ramble was not an easy one for me to respond, I confess! P.G.Wodehouse brings memories, not those expressed by any of you here, just another phase in life.

However, I too wonder Cheeniya sir about how a person's life would come across if it were chronicled in a different way? Would it have shown them in a different light? Like I have expressed many times, while it is so easy to understand the greatness of a person, the persistent question that I battle internally is "How? How do they do it? Don't they have normal human problems? How does one grow beyond what is normal and human?" Perhaps chronicling what is perceived ordinary might help ordinary people like me look into the extra ordinary lives of these people with more ease and appreciate their greatness even better.

While there is a chance that sharing these ordinary experiences might show them in ordinary light, I personally think it will just make them that much more human yet offering inspiration and hope to others! How would we all come across minus the projections, appearances and greatness (where it applies)? Certainly something to think about.

In the same vein Cheeniya sir, while such discretionary abilities might elude you and me, I do believe that is what makes us feel good, feel human and feel a connection. Who needs those discretionary chroniclers when just your chronological list keeping has still made you so endearing to so many ILites and I am sure has made a difference to your circle! On second thoughts, let me wonder how it would be if it were presented by those chroniclers? Nah! I personally still like this better.

    My dear Anna

I am also surprised like Viswa how you say you have problem where to start when you write something. I also agree with him that you combine two, three subjects together and end up so well. Only you can do that. I am also a great fan of yours and like to give fbs to your threads though sometimes I have to see the dictionary to see some difficult words

I am odd person out here because I have not read PGW's books nor I am a great writer. But still try to post something or other in the snippets and get disappointed when I dont get fbs. Like OJ I also think I should stop writing and be happy giving fbs to the threads which I am able to give. I know I should stop writing in snippets because there are so many young and great writers there so people will like to read those threads only. Everytime I think like that but then land up writing because when I get fbs I feel very happy. Now let me see how long I can stop writing there.

Today I was feeling very depressed thats why let out my feelings here. Sorry if I have written anything wrong.

    Dear Sri,

When I read your rambling the first time, a few months back......my first thought was it is related to some literature....then as I continued the next reaction was, what is the relevance and finally when I finished reading it I was amazed!!! How you could link up things in a very natural way and that too very convincingly with wit, humour and at the same time thought provoking with a matured mind.!!! Some incidents that you mention happen in many people's day to day lives... but the way you present them is amazing! That needs extra spark of writing and thought process which is a god given gift. If I write about the same thing it would look like a school essay given for homework. Looking forward for many more snippets

That was a fantastic piece. Apart of your characteristic humour and literary style (no matter how much you protest to the contrary in this snippet), you have written about this chappie Bertie Wooster and his creator PGW who are my eternal favourites. So much so that I have designated my nephew to be Bertie (though he does not possess any of the qualities of Bertie) and I am Aunt Dahlia or Aunt Agatha depending on my disposition towards him in the moment. :-D

Now who else other than PGW could ever come up with a simile like this one. It is so picture perfect, that one almost has a feeling of being on the scene and seeing this happen. (May be the one who comes closest to PGW is a Marathi stage personality called Pu.La. Deshpande or simply PuLa. Strangely enough his first initial is also a "P". Unfortunately he is no more. A tremendous loss to the Marathi stage).

    My dear Srama
At the height of Emergency when Indra Gandhi was the most feared and perhaps the most loathed political figure, I read an article about her that showed her in a completely different light as a suave, lovable and dutiful person who combined all the positive qualities of a successful woman with an unbelievable finesse. That certainly changed my perspective of her for the better.

On the contrary, there are several articles that brought to light how Gandhi who held a strong sway over millions as Father of The Nation miserably failed as a father of his own children. These articles speak of his utterly dogmatic approach and of his unbending nature. Every one in this world has some skeletons in the cupboard and cupboards are the best place for them to be in. Why bring them out and parade them in public?

I agree with you that getting a glimpse into the ordinary daily routine of famous personalities might show them as more human than otherwise. Remember how Obama swatting a fly during the CNN interview made him instantly more endearing than all the combined effect of his reforms including his latest Insurance reforms? There is a TV programme called 'America's Funniest Home Videos' which I love a lot. I am more interested in figuring in them than shooting a funny incident!

    My dear Viji
I write for my own pleasure and the FBs are never a great concern for me. I wrote this thread five years back and in five years, I have hardly received a dozen FBs. In fact yours is the 12th FB! I always feel sad about OJ. He is such a talented writer who rode IL like a Colossus. None of us could ever match his narrative skill and his humour is infectious. It is a great pity that he decided to call it a day here.

I certainly do not like this attitude of yours. As your Anna, I strongly voice my protest. You have more admirers in this community than any of us. They love you and respect you. Whether you write or not, you will remain etched in our heart. You keep sharing some irrefutable home truths in your own style for the benefit of all those you love. When you fed your daughters when they were kids, did you expect a word of appreciation from them everyday about the food they ate? When such appreciation was not coming, did you stop cooking and starve them?

I strongly urge you to take everything in your stride. Don't depress me by feeling depressed!

    My dear syamala
Thanks a million for your warm appreciation. I feel relieved that no one preserved my school essays like the letters that Nehru wrote to his daughter! If you read them today, God knows what you would think of me! Whether I write well or not is a moot point. What is more important is that what I write appeals to some people. That's all. My regular readers would hardly constitute 2% of the regular visitors to IL. When someone is described as the Monarch of all he surveys, it only means how limited his survey can be!

The day I read about the water getting in your nose in your swimming thread, I knew what a great fan of PGW you must be! But I must give you this. You are indeed uniquely placed to be able to play Aunt Dahlia and Aunt Agatha alternatively. Very few can lay claim to such a capability!

I have not heard of the famed Marathi writer PuLa. If there is an English translation of any of his works, I would love to read it.
