    THE TIRING 'ME'

Yes, I can tire myself. I need nobody to do that.

Sometimes I stop listening to myself. Not sometimes, quite often. I am made of two MEs! Inside and outside. It is the one inside that tires me. I am happy with the one outside because it never interferes, rather it encourages me to go and do what I like.

The one inside never stops talking to me, talkative fellow! To be honest, I agree with this 'me' on all accounts, like I should be truthful, honest, compassionate, stop being angry, do my duty, detach from results, and all that. I agree with this 'me' and even promise to follow its advice, but by the evening or morning, I break that promise.

Many times, it has told me not to preach what I do not practice. I promise to preach only what I practice, but I fail to keep my promise. I used to write a lot of preaching stuff from the scriptures and stopped for a while, as per the voice from the 'me within. ' Within no time, I started preaching like a living sage on this planet.

Many times I promised not to smoke or drink on its advice but could not keep it. There are hundreds of broken promises. If some of them I kept or the inner ' me' may tend to believe so, let me tell it that it was done for some other reason like health or other compelling circumstances but surely not on its advice.

Surprisingly, some of its advice resonated with what my parents told me. I was in a position to follow advice like, "Never insult your elders, never willingly hurt others, never steal from others, and stuff like that. "For that, the credit goes to my parents and not to my inner 'me'.

It keeps me tiring though. You know what I mean, do you?

    Dear Harilakhara,
You have beautifully brought out the common problem faced by most of us.The conflict is differently described as inner voice, internal monologue etc.In my own experience I find that as I age, I am abiding more and more by what my inner voice says. There was a time when I defied my inner voice and asked what if?

The inner ME is sure a nagger. Even my inner me keeps constantly reminding me not to eat junk food and to keep fit. I say softly in my inner voice to my inner me "Just this one last time..." every time

    Dear Shri SLN,
Yes, there is no denying that the inner self-soul warns us, but the outer self-mind has to weigh many pros and cons and, in most cases, is the winner. As we advance in age, we listen to our inner self because we have few axes to grind.

True. There is always a tomorrow to listen to inner Me. Nowadays doctors are also telling not to worry after crossing 70. Eat or drink what you like, in moderation. I am sure you have years to reach there, hahaha.
