    Nice write up Sathya !
I doubt that we will do something about "human being day" too as we have "earth day" " children's day" "Mother's day" but many of us haven't done much to our mother, or for our kids or for our planet. Not to be a pessimist here, but just shared my pain/disappointment.

    Cheers!
    Radheshyam.

    Hello Sathya,

Your write up was too good. To tell you frankly, I never knew that for call made, one sparrow is killed. Seriously, shocking to know that.

    Dear Satya
Congratulations on getting published in The Hindu. That's great !:hatsoff

Its very disturbing to learn that the disappearance of the House Sparrow is because of Cell phone usage. I used to think that they left the cities only because there's no more sparrow- food available in the concrete jungles. But so sad our modern conveniences are also contributing to killing them off.

Man is a selfish animal, no doubt about it at all. But everything in nature is interlinked. All our mistakes will come back to haunt us one day, of that we can be very sure.

    Dear Sathya,
Congrats for your achievement!! As you have mentioned
    in your article
house sparrow is one of the most common and loved birds in the world. The decline of house sparrow has been a matter of much concern and debate across its natural ranges. It is an important bio-indicator. The decline in its number is a grim reminder of degradation of the urban environments and the danger from it to the human welfare in the longer run,The invisible blanket of electromagnetic radiation from mobile phones, the pesticides inside food grains and the loss of habitat in urban settlements have vastly contributed to the slow disappearance of sparrows from the urban landscape.Bird lovers are keeping shelters like wooden boxes on trees, which can be used as nests by sparrows. They have put up more than 1,000 boxes across the city so far. Hopefully this has some beneficial effect.
    with love

    Dear Sathya,
Your write up is so touching and also interspersed with sarcasm and I enjoyed reading it. While we were at Newjersy last year, sparrows built a nest in our son’s apartment and we enjoyed watching both he and she sparrow feeding the chicks every few minutes and we caught them in our camera. I have posted it in flickr and have also written a story for kids and posted it in IL.
Even here at our apartment we feed the squirrels, crows and pigeons and keep water for them both in the morning and evening. It is really fun to watch them. Perhaps the future generation will not have these pleasures.

    Love,
    PS

    dear usha

    great...
that we are doing our little bit
like putting kolams with rice powder
that is what it was initially meant to do
attract and feed birds and insects/ants
but with the whizzing past of vehicles
and kolams on roads becoming rare...
we have to do our bit
like feeding and keeping water for the
    birds
    with the grains you feed
there will be more twitters in this world

    thank you
