    The Original Sin!

The original sin may or may not be the apple episode in Eden but suspending the mind and refusing to think, is.

"The original sin is suspending the mind and refusing to think. A child never refuses to think and therefore lives in a paradise which we lose when we refuse to think in later years"

    Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

From the very childhood, the only thing we do without interruption is, think. Our mind is always active and thinking and It never stops. It does not matter what it thinks, what matters is when it stops thinking.

As long as our body is functioning and mind is active, we will think. Again, it does not matter what is the extent or limit of our thinking, what matters is what we are doing to expand the knowledge we have gained so far.All the great inventions, writings, anything are the product of a thinking mind.

Never, ever, commit the original sin, again.

A child's mind is a clean slate with no prejudices written on it and is free from the burden of belief systems. Over the years we find it easier to believe than to think and know. Intellectual laziness like any other kind of laziness can be quite soothing.

Very true. Can I say a stagnant mind gathers no knowledge.

    Dear Hariji,
    My view...
We all think. Mind can never be stagnant. Kids, adults of all age think...may be about different things. Both good and bad. Out of thoughts many things have evolved. In meditation not supposed to think. But can we? In those few minutes so much goes in the mind!!!

    Syamalaji,
Yes, it is difficult, nay close to impossible to stop mind from thinking. I have not been in a position to come to a stage of Zero unless I make noise by clapping and chanting the mantras loudly. Meditation has to be in very calm and peaceful atmosphere.
But what we call a thinking mind, it may be a wavering mind-swinging from one thought to another. A thinking mind is one that adds value to what we already know. We read books, mix up and start conversation with friends and do such other activities to add value to out thinking. It has to be positive, of course.

As long as we are alive and conscious we can’t stop thinking.
Multitaskers need to be alert than the one who is performing just one task.

Yes. Multitasking is the asset of women as a natural gift.

:hello:Except in deep dreamless sleep, rest of the time humans would always be thinking of something through senses input received by ear eye and feel. Of course in coma persons can’t think. Freezing of thinking can never take place until the person is dead.

How do we connect head to our thinking. Thinking process is a great science. Why and how are always debatable. Some say it is at cellular level chemical communication! In meditation too cessation of thoughts never happens. Something or other constantly crossing the mind. Even while chant once focus shifts from mantra to sundries.

In Maharishi’s examining the “I” thought you just be and let thoughts come and go and the regimen when followed over a period said to grant you the self realisation.

My metallurgy professor was telling that “when you think you are thinking you are not thinking”.

Hitler supposed to have conducted experiments by freezing live men in water tank to test frozen men’s ability to think. With varying temperatures the body thinking ability varies according to one theory. In razing fever people switch to blithering and lose orientation.

It is all understanding about neural network in brain the scientists say and the science is still in nascent stage.

    Thanks and Regards.

I think mind captures all what one feels thru the senses and it stops only when one are clinically dead. Even a man in coma may be thinking but can not express. This explains when they at times move their fingers or eyelids. This is also explained when they recover and tell what they saw when they were in comma state.
But then what Ayn Rand wanted to say is we must add to our knowledge by thinking anew. Refusing to think is sin.
