Questioning shows intelligence. When that's done like you have at least you derived fun. Fun is infectious, attractive, logic is boring.
Throw some tasty snacks and special preparations in pirportedly to give Gods while consuming it all ourselves in the end, there is even immediate reward which we know will recur whether we do our part or not, same time next year....

When religion is made appealing with mythological stories, fun dramas, melas, even little children and uneducated people become followers and since the impressive aspects of devotion through admiration and interested involvement is always pointed out they are able to stay with it and emulate the better behaviors (or at least, that's the hope). Of course, it can be made logical and terse and full of good and bad consequences for adherents (guarantee of a permanent place in Paradise) and non-adherents (thunder-strike on head with eyes getting plucked out).

How many people attend logical, Vedantha-vichara Vs. how many attend Chaturti procession or Ram Lila? How many go back home understanding poetic justice conveyed in these dramas in the most arresting ways Vs. the same in the Great truths in High-languages propounded by our Great Acharyas?!

In the young minds, an affection grows for 'Gods,' in child forms doing extraordinary things instead of unexplained fear for a logical and stern Nudge with some dire punishment to dole out at His Will...love for Baby Krishna, with his flute, looking beautiful with lovely animals entranced and surrounding him, or Baby Jesus in the manger with a bright halo around his baby-face, or the mirthful, rolly-poly and pounchy Ganesh with the massive head of the ever-fascinating elepant!

Noise and dirt are evil. We must work to conquer them, in religious celebrations, sites and everywhere else tooLet's begin he process with ourselves and inform those right next to us exare doing it-it will catch on.

As adults now we can start making a far e of all that but as children, we have suely enjoyed those same stories and have wanted more and may have even added our own eyes, nose and ears to those eternal tales (the better tools of teaching).

Don't take the fun out of festivals (the poor man's
bollywood-cinema which is the rich man's escape tool just the same!)... Just the noise and the dirt.

Who says the stories are not fun.? Festivals are fun too though I deny the existence of the gods to whom we owe the festivals.

Personally, I think what everyone refers to as God is an unfashionable energy-source.

That is a safe guess because you need energy even to deny energy.

You will be chased by Ganesha's Mooshak for all eternity! :imp:It has taken a new Avatar as Comp Mouse!

Thank Ganesha that not every one is as Nastik as you. Why the Mumbai people have become so pious that all the educational institutes were closed for one week + the Final day to pay respect to Him properly. From next year I think everything should be closed the office goers are no less devoted! And lest we forget Nav ratris are coming too. The Mother of Ganesha needs as much devotion . No?

I think we should have a calendar marked with WORKING days only. Rest are devotional days.

Lest you forget Shiva and Parvati are the original Cool  couple. She has a son without his knowledge and he acquiesces after initial strife. Original Liberated couple!

Shobhamma, I only hope that the self appointed contractors for Ganesha, Shiv Sena and MNS will not chase me. As for Shiv aand Parvati being original cool couple, Shiva was also the original hippie with unkempt hair, hooked on pot and bhang and cocking a snook at dress codes. There are national holidays, state holidays, religious holidays, restricted holidays that are really unrestricted .. and the list goes on.Marking working day on calendars would be really a lot easier.
