Dear Ice,
It did. And yes it gave goosebumps to me when I first heard about the incident. The story is very reliable. It was told by an orthodox brahmin who frequently visits Srirengam from Madurai.

Sridhar, In my humble opinion, "Perumal" himself came with "Thaiyar" to teach us a lesson. What a great story. I heard about Tuluka Nachiar, but don't the back ground for the story.
Yes, they can divide the land, not the humanity and love we have for people.

Thanks CL for coming in and thanks for those words.
Almost every place has a Thulukka Nachiar and a background story.
I need to find out the story of Thulukka Nachiar in Srirengam.
In Madurai when the Azhagar comes from his place Azhagarkoil during Chitra festival he visits the house of a Muslim woman.
And there is a beautiful story of Thulukka Nachiar at Thirunarayanapuram near Mysore.
It's part of Ramanuja's life.
And I made into a blog combining Rumi's poetry as well.

That's a story I wrote with tears in my eyes. The story is confirmed by historians and you can find a sannathi for the Muslim princess at Srirengapattinam. (Thirunarayanapuram).

Hi Shridharji,
Timely article. Very well told. We are always making this mistake if we find some weeds in a field we rush to make statement field is full of weeds but only some people like the wise Jeeyar takes time to check the veracity. Hope God now grants us all the wisdom that all human beings are one and it is foolish to divide ourselves based on religion, caste, creed, region, language, and skin color..................

Thats why I am proud to be Hindu for true Hindu is tolerant towards all religion and I guesss the same hold to true followers of other religions.

Dear Sridhar,
I had always been awaiting for such a judgement and I am very happy and from the bottom of my heart I pray for the well being of the judges who pronounced this bold verdict.
The Srirangam temple episode which you narrated was very touching. Yes, Hinduism, if at all a religion is personification of Love, Love and Love alone. As I read this , I recollected an incident in the lifeof my parents which my mom had written in her autobiography (meant for our family) which she had also shared with me verbally when I was a kid. I want to share that incident here right out of her a.b in her own words-

In the month of March 1964,in East Bengal that was under the control of Pakistan, communal riots had started. Hindus were tortured and driven away. In West Bengal and Bihar, Hindus also started riot in retaliation. All the Muslim families were targeted and they underwent untold sufferings. Lots of them were murdered and their properties looted or burnt. In the beginning Telco Colony was peaceful and only in the other parts of the city the riot was in full swing, but people were afraid that any moment it could start here too. We were greatly concerned about our neighbour Baqi and advised him to move to a safer place. We came to know that Muslims were given shelter at a mosque and police protection was given to them. But though Baqi was afraid, he put up a brave face and told that Allah would take care of him. It was a Friday and at midnight he called out from his house and told that some people were throwing stones at his house. TKS went out and saw no one. On Saturday morning TKS went to the office and being half day he returned home at noon. In the office he came to know that in Telco also the riot had started and so when he was returning home he brought a taxi and told Baqi to leave home immediately with his family and explained to him the seriousness. Baqi had no time to take anything as TKS told him that the condition was very bad and he also told the sardarji driver not to stop the vehicle on any account and to leave them at the mosque where Muslims were kept under police protection. The driver was known to TKS and was a good chap. Still we were worried till we got the news from the driver that he dropped them safely at the mosque. He told that some people tried to stop him but he managed to drive without stopping. Later we came to know that Baqi’s youngest daughter had lost her voice due to panic after witnessing the riot scenes.
Barely had they left the house, a whole lot of hooligans came with lethal weapons and finding the door locked, broke open the door. They smashed all the things, took all the clothes and set fire. They looted fans and other costly things. We were not able to do anything and could only watch in silence. The other neighbours also could do nothing. Later curfew was imposed and shoot at sight order was given and army took over control. All types of rumours were spread and people told that Muslims were joining together to attack the Hindus. In each area citizens’ voluntary groups were formed to do night patrolling. People had even brought iron rods from construction sites to defend themselves. The situation was brought under control after 4, 5 days and normalcy returned. Most of the Muslims were butchered in the city where there population was less. After normalcy returned, most of the Muslims left for their native place. After this incident Telco company had allotted quarters to Muslims in groups of apartments. After six months our neighbour returned and we came to know about his daughter. He told that he could not find words to thank TKS, but for his timely action the whole family would have perished. He also moved to the new place. Whenever he returned from his native place he used to send mangoes to show his gratitude.
