Hi buddies of the animal and feathered kingdoms,

The other day ,at a bookstore I came across some books marked as Puffin Editions.I've seen Penguin editions and the real Penguin bird who looks very dapper in his colouring of black and white almost as if he were wearing a tuxedo (tailored by Saville Row )and ready to attend a ball!! Till his baby waddling steps make us chuckle ...
I surfed around and found the following facts about the equally adorable Puffin bird that I'm sharing here .

Here are 20 facts about the beloved Puffin that are such beautiful, intelligent birds .
They are so delightful in their way of doing things, one can understand what makes them such an attraction.
    1) Puffins are excellent swimmers.
    2) The female lays on one egg during the mating season.
    3) The diet consists of Sand Eels, Herring, Hake, and Capelin.
    4) They drink Sea Water.
    5) Puffins are not in any way related to the Penguin.
    6) Puffins can live up to 20 years in the wild.
    7) Their main predators are the Great Black-Backed Gull and Man.
    8) Puffins are faithful lovers – they stay together and mate for life.
    9) It is believed the Puffin’s beak, or bill, is dull in Winter and brightly coloured in Spring.
    10) Puffins often ‘kiss’ or what is known as ‘billing’ their partners.
    11) Their black and white feathers are waterproof.
    12) They can dive as deep 60 metres (200 feet).
    13) Baby Puffins use an outside toilet so as to not soil their feathers or bed.
    14) Puffins live in burrows in the ground or cliff faces.
    15) A baby puffin is called a Puffling.
    16) Puffins stand about 25cm (10 inches) tall.
    17) The best places to watch Puffins is the Scottish Highlands – John O’Groats, Durness, and Sutherland.
    18) Puffins are rather odd looking with their dumpy bodies, short legs set far back, and small wings.
    19) They can fly up to 70mph (approx 110kph)

    20) Puffins are not an endangered species but millions die due to oil spillages, they get sick when they clean it off, global warming , trash in the sea, and over-fishing. Over-fishing is very threatening since there isn’t enough fish for the adult Puffin to feed its chicks.

Facts 8 and 10 really prompts us to say 3 :cheers 's to this amazing species .The lovey dovey pictures are so heavenly!

    Paulina

thanks so much for sharing. I remember seeing them on discovery channel.
Aren't they adorable? Especially the second one with five fish stuffed in its mouth reminds one of a youngster with chocolates stuffed in the mouth!

Do they belong to the same family as auks?
