It’s like Xi Jinping saying as long as there is economic prosperity in China, democracy does not matter. Gender Equality: Why it Matters Covid widened the gender gap — it will now take 135 years to close that divide, WEF says
Did I say gender inequality does not matter? It matters. It matters a lot. Countries should be ranked based on their progress in reducing gender inequality. The resulting lists should be published to encourage the countries doing well and to shame-into-doing better the countries that can do better. But titling such lists as "Ten best countries to be a woman" is misleading. I would prefer "Ten countries doing the best in reducing gender disparity for their citizens" Do you think the title "Ten best countries to be a woman" is misleading? A direct answer would be preferable to another set of new links on the topic.
Doing well in these categories does not make a country among the best countries to be a woman. And, being in the bottom half of this list does not make a country a bad one for a woman. The title is misleading if you are a women and you are not from one of those countries (top 10)
When you don't have any choice to be where you are, finding the right parameters to rank your location/situation high enough [in the world, in the town, in the neighborhood, among your schoolmate cohorts, in your siblings/first-cousins etc. etc. ] is the Mr.Rogers' palliative. A girl/woman high-ranked for life and its opportunities, but screwed anyhow... is the real situation The Beijing 12 critical areas of concern deconstructed The 1995 Beijing Platform for Action flagged 12 key areas where urgent action was needed to ensure greater equality and opportunities for women and men, girls and boys. It also laid out concrete ways for countries to bring about change. UN Women works with governments and partners to ensure such change is real for women and girls around the world. 12 critical areas
You have a talent to distract people from facts, the report is analyzing why some countries have closed the gender gap irrespective of their GDP and you are posting something that is totally irrelevant to the topic.
Thyagarajan: Dont fluff and fuzzify the serious issues.... of existence and survival. Girls should have equal chance to come up the career ladders, and we (fathers, in my case.... but uncles, brothers, cousins, and friends as well) must stand in support. For all of us, the goal should be to foist the heavy lifting to the girls, and finagle our way to a supporting role, and ease off. Obviously the clever ones among us can see the benefits. I would let others to comment on the other icons/subjects from post #14 Institutional mechanisms Specialized institutions have played an important part in informing laws, policies and programmes and advancing gender equality. Robust laws and policies coupled with stronger mechanisms to coordinate various actors and ensure their effective enforcement and implementation can push the agenda.
If every single woman is safe in any country or any part of the world at any time of day & night it must be utopian. The title is about which are the countries best to be a woman. The foremost requirement for woman is her safety 24x7. In terms of opportunities it’s altogether a different issue. I agree that women are to be supported and encouraged and empowered and gender gap to be reduced that includes home & work place as well. I have nothing to comment about world ranking done by WHO or any other organisation.
How does this relate to your previous statement Eventually every expatriate agree with adage “East or West - Home is Best”. ?
