    Hello Friends

We want to relocate to either NC or Tx from connectucut. Can you please suggest me pros and cons of living in both places. I have school going kids to my priorities are good schools, good weather, good job oppotunities (IT), good communities/houses etc. I cannot take extreme heat or extreme cold.

Hi Emarald...I would vote for North Carolina without a doubt based on this criteria. Texas summers are hot and humid with many consecutive days of 100+ temperatures. Also depends on which cities in both states you are comparing. Let me give my perspective between Dallas and Charlotte as I have lived in both cities and I love Charlotte even though Dallas is a bigger city. The main reason for me is the weather. The summers are hot here in Charlotte, but they are far worse in Dallas.

I can comment on job market, but it would be very easier if you tell me which cities from both states you are debating between.

Thank you so much lucky22. I don't know in which city I will get job in North Carolina. But if we choose Texas then we might goto Austin. I got very good feedback about both places but got slightly better about NC. We want to move for long term thats why I want to make sure I take right decision.

Both places have there own charm. Austin is a great city. But TX summer are hot. NC is pretty nice place. I don't know much about charlotte but Research triangle is a very nice place to live. Again, summer can be quite hot in NC as well, milder than TX though. Winter will definitely be much milder than CT. Both Austin and research triangle have good schools. Houses are affordable in both places. In short, you won't make a bad decision with whatever you choose. Personally I'd move to NC because of proximity to blue ridge mountains and a bit nicer weather.

Hi, we live in northeast, working in IT. I am also looking to move away from the extreme climate.

    These are my preferences-

    1. Surrounded by Indian communities. I would like to have lot of friends. I am feeling very lonely not too many indians where we live.
    2. Warm weather, but not too hot >100 F on daily basis is not what I am looking.
    3. Good Schools for kids.
    4. Prospects of growth in IT profession.
    5. Low cost of living- rents/ house price/ daycare cost.

So now please tell me friends what places will suit my preferences. North Carolina seems to be a fit, but would like to know more places that I might have skipped.

    Thanks

Except # 5, (which is also a perception) I would say the Bay Area fits all the other criteria you have!

2 techies earning in the Bay Area should not find it too expensive!

    Hi,

I don't have first hand experience of life in Austin, but can def. tell you about NC.

First weather is nice most of the year. A few days/weeks of over 95deg high in summer and a few days of below 35deg high in winter. Other than that a lot of bugs in summer.

Schools are very good in a few places - Cary, Morrisville, Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Charlottel.

Housing is very reasonable and very nice construction - you shd be able to find a very well contructed newer home in the 300-600k range based on the size of your home.

Lots of indians in all the above cities - Morrisville has the highest number of Indian origin people and many of them work in the research triangle park(RTP) which has a huge number of IT companies. Don't know about hiring or job prospects currently.

Lots of socialising and Desi events in the above cities. Many cultural organizations to cater to every region/language and arts. Travel to these events doesnt take much time as distances and traffic not much so there is usually a heavy attendance to all cultural events.

I just recently moved to the Bay Area from Austin after living there for 7 years. It's a nice city, university town. Very liberal for Texas compared to Dallas/Houston.

Austin is a nice city, again with lots of Indians in the South West/North Austin areas and of course, a lot of companies. Housing is very affordable, and having no state tax is a huge plus.

We have Indian events like classical music concerts etc that happen from 2 organizations that are run in Austin. Aside from that, Austin Hindu Temple has Bala Vihar and activities like that for kids.

RR ISD and Eanes ISD are good school districts. Round Rock and South West Austin have a huge number of Indians given that these 2 areas are where most of the tech companies are concentrated.

The weather might be a little tricky. Summer can be pretty bad. It's been especially bad since the last couple of years with it going over a 100 degrees in summer. But winter is not bad, especially considering that you're from the North East!
