Good Question! I have seen that in the whole of India, Tamilnadu is the most corrupted state in most of the fields. Could it have anything to do with our atheist rulers taking turns in ruling the state and the God planning to flee to a better place!:idontgetit::tongue :tongue

Tirupati is the most commercialised temple i have seen so far... such costly entry tickets... seperate queues for separate classes...
May be that is why He is the richest God in the World too ?

Even I agree. Tirupathi darshanam is categorised according to your status and money you are willing to spend. The people who cant pay high amount in payning the special darshan ticket, they have to stand for almost the whole day to just get a glipse of the GOD. And who pay big amounts get to see/offer prayers to the GOD for however long they want to :idontgetit:
I visited Meenakshi Temple and I was surprised to see that even for breaking the Nariyal (Coconut) the priest was charging money. Disgusting I can just say.
In Bangalore there is a Shiva Temple that has very tall Shiva Idol. When the temple was made, there was no entry fee. But now the scene is ridiculous. Apart from the entry fee, as you move on, you have to pay some money for tying a thread in front of Ganesha Idol. After that you have to pay some money to devote water/milk etc to the very small Shivaling on the way. And then there is one "Havan" going on and if you want to put some oil in it , you pay money  And people who think that God might get angry if visit a temple and dont do all these , end up paying more money than what they probably had asked from the GOD
    Funny !!!!
I too agree that public is responsible for this trend :icon_frown:

    Hi Sathya,

I agree with your sentiments exactly. It is not the temples - it is the poojaris. And let's face it, it is their only source of income is it not? I actually feel sorry for them because many of them are very poor, and they know of no other ways to earn.

If the Temple Trust could give them better conditions of work, perhaps they won't feel the need to ask for money so desperately.

    Hi
I do agree that temples are commercialised.
When I went to chidambaram I was shocked because I wanted to make a sankalpam and do archana but there was one poojari who was asking for only money to do it he was not even interested in knowing what my sangalpam was although I had bought the special ticket for darshan. What happened to all the kindness .Its become a business.Every poojari will have a bill book and pen to give you a bill in this temple.
All that is OK I think, because it depends on the way we take it. I feel any way it is going to the temple. Moreover we are not going to the temple like this every day only once a year isnt.We should not think of money.
If you want to go and have darshan then just have the darshan thats all God will bless you.If you want to do something to God then do it according to your satisfaction. Why worry about poojaris.
Also please remember it is not fully there fault, Inflation of the population, conveniency, time , circumstances etc everything involves.
    bye

    Dear Golden angel,
Madurai, Chidambaram, and other famous temples where devotees thrng up day in and out are supposed to be rich temples. Without in asking lots of people are offering money when pujari shows the Karpura harathi. Still they ask for more money. There are temples where devotees visit rarely and the pujaris get meagre payment, we offer them money gladly. But when the pujari's ask for more and more we really feel disgusted. thank you for sharing your views,
    Love,
    PS

    Dear Pushpa,

    Well said.

I too dont visit tempels at all, and pray at home. For me all Gods are one, names are different.

Do u know, that many temples are auctioned every year to the highest bidder for a price. The new owner could make or lose money, he takes a chance on the offerings being more than what he has paid ?

And yes paying to get first Darshan, and all that puts me off.Regards.kamal

    Dear Kamalji,
Sorry for the delayed reply. Thank you for sharing your views. Though I do not visit temples often, when I visit cities of famous temples, I could not resist the temptation to have darshan.
    Love,
