    TEACHING PROFESSION EXCELS…

As the Teachers day is being celebrated today Sep 05th just wanted to initiate this thread…. Please spare some valuable time of yours to read and share your thoughts…

Teaching is the best profession as it grooms every student, and the Teacher gets immensely satisfied when the students who have passed out are seen in the highest status, great profile, commanding job or even an ordinary person because the teachers have played an important role in each one’s life.

India being a literate Country barring a negligible pie of the population, every student is taught by Teachers be it a Government, Private, International, Industry Based or even under a treeshade school.

I am sure everyone would agree with me that the students’ education happens in school through teachers, who are responsible for bringing them up, I can hear you say parents also play a role, :thumbsupYes I do agree, but I am here to mention that Teaching Profession shares a major pie in the child’s growth. But other profession, in some industry weare paid to work but we work for the management or for a company and thecompany grows. You can’t claim that I have been a part to produce this productwhen you see your company’s product elsewhere.

To add, for instance an automobile industry has thousands of employees in its roll, a person working as an Accountant or HR cannot feel that I was also responsible for producing this car when he sees the vehicle in someones garage or passing through the road. But always every teacher can point out a kid and say “Hey you were in my class or the student can say I studied in your class sir/m’am”, thereby justifying their roles.

TEACHING PROFESSION is thus a Great Profession, :bowdownOh!!! Some one else whispers… Doctor also saves aLife, Grrrrrrr… Yes :) but not the whole lot of population goes to hospital, but comparatively all children go to school. Oh!!! there is difference and hence Doctors only take the next place.

Two or Three decades before, in the Indian education industry only students weak in a particular subject who needs extra attention goes for tuition and that too free in somecases as it would be a gesture of the teacher to offer extra help to the student unbiased to raise the child to the standard of the class.

Today’s scenario starting from KG children (Most) attend tuition classes like another evening school for home work help or preparing for test irrespective whether they fare well in aparticular subject or not.

With the great competitionof 0.1% of marks that need to be surpassed to be Topper or enter into a professional course, coaching classes have mushroomed and the entire set of 50/60 students attend those extra classes again like a class to obtain marks/grades. What is supposed to happen in schools happen at tuition centres or coaching classes or at home under the guidance of parent/sibling.

Feel really worried for the present generation who are stressed studying throughout the academic year which could have been otherwise hassle free with no playing outdoor, no time to spend with friends, cousins, sibling or even an outing. Can they get back their tiny pleasure and enjoyment after all the struggle and hardwork becoming an IT Specialist/Engineer/Doctor. Aren’t we depriving the students of their childhood in the pretext of marks/grades or Board Exams

If the Schools are doing their bit judicially, then where is the necessity for tuition and coaching classes (Earlier schools themselves used to train for the pattern of entrance exams/employability at the college level)

Review from the Education team, South Asia region, World BankQuote : The results (2012) confirm a widespread dissatisfaction with the current Graduates – 64% of the employers hiring fresh engineering graduates (at India) are only somewhat satisfied with the quality of new hires or worse: Unquote

Teachers are not allowed to practice or adopt their own way to teach students but have lot of restrictions and also looked down with salary being low compared to other professions while the Teaching Profession needs to be respected with divine.

At all circumstances there is always an exemption, the above is generalized and not taking about any particular school or region, stopping here as it has already become a long one, reserving some more to be penned soon.

TEACHERS CAN NEVER BE REPLACED and let us SALUTE to them on the Teachers day, Hope & Pray Teachers could work in coordination with the parents, students, management and raise the standards of education and make the time and money spent worthwhile.

Thanks for patiently scrolling through, Thanks

    HAPPY TEACHERS DAY:)

In some countries, teachers are the most revered and very highly paid. Why can't that happen in our country? Most people assume that the people who become teachers are either losers who didn't get a job anywhere else or mothers who need to go home early to take care of their kids. When education is all about getting the highest paycheck, teachers lose their credibility!

Saisakthi, the current education system in India leaves a lot to be desired. It is a sad state of affairs.

On one hand education has been degraded to a commodity which is bought and sold. No, I am not saying that education should be free. What I am trying to say is that people feel that because they pay fees, they are customers, teachers are vendors and education is a commodity. Customer is king and so the students and parents have a right to demand and dictate terms to teachers. Teachers are no longer given their due respect. Parents assume that because they pay fees, they can dictate how and what the teachers should teach. They do not realize that teachers are also professionals in their field and know better how to teach. The demand from parents to soft peddle with kids without discipline makes it really tough for teachers to deal with kids these days.

On the other hand, we have to admit that the quality of teachers is also going down. This is due to the short sighted policies of the government in recruiting teachers. Firstly they are very badly paid, made to do jobs which are not part of their teaching duties (e.g. election duties, census duties etc.) without any additional pay; they are often recruited based on caste considerations rather than on merit which will definitely do a lot of harm to the quality of education.

We really need a major revamping of the system if we need to get anywhere in today's world. Last but not least this stupid system of making kids cram for exams over getting them to learn creatively and letting them enjoy the process of learning needs to change. Children need to learn to think for themselves rather than accept what is told to them blindly or mugging up notes from guides and notebooks.

Unless that is done, we shall continue in the rut we are in.

    Dear Saisakthi sister,

Great tribute to the teaching profession! I also believe that a teacher can make or break one's future. Barring a small percentage, not many teachers are in that profession to actually 'teach' or serve the noble cause. They are there because it is a convenient vocation or there are means to earn more money. I didn't have great experience with teachers, especially one maths teacher who used to terrorise all of us.At that time,I didn't realise why she was especially mean to some of us..later I came to know from my peers that it was because I wasn't part of her tuition group! Anyway,I had some great teachers as well...and I salute them !

    Happy Teachers Day!

Well said SS sister. Teachers always play a very important role in the society and I am always grstegul to my teachers for what I have got from them. There are always exceptions in everything. What is mimportant is that teachers should not look at teaching only as a job but be passionate about it. Everyday going to teach should not be yet another day...but with the thought as to what more they can give to the kids. They should realise the role they can play in building the next generation.

Happy teachers day to all teachers in IL.
