Has anyone taken gold from here to India recently?

There was a drastic reduction in the weight that we can carry without duty and then recently they increased it. I want to sent some with my husband but not sure how much would be duty free for him. For men and women it is different weights. Any recent experiences that you can share?

    Hi Soann,

As per the revised rules, Men can carry Gold jewellery worth Rs. 50,000 duty free and women could carry jewellery worth Rs. 1,00,000, to India. For Gold coins and biscuits, you have to pay duty.

And to avail this, you need to be abroad for a year or more. If you have travelled to India in between, this doesn't apply to you.

    Hi

One more thing, it is important to give this information in Immigration and customs form while landing. You can't change your Customs declaration after your passport is stamped, normally. Now a days, the small airports are very difficult as they are confiscating even 10grms of gold in bullion(bar/coins).

    Thanks

Yes Rukmani, the duty free allowance is only for gold ornaments and not for gold coins / bars.

And, I'd also encountered stringent checks at the small airports when compared to the metros.
