    Hello Angeli,

My coach used to tell me that swimming is a skill that involves hand entry, catch, pull, exit and recovery, plus kicking and breathing! I learnt it a few years ago and I believe I swim reasonably [IMG]

Based on what I know, here are some few tips:

    1. Your hands should trace an "S" pattern through the water.
    2. You need to swim by crawl.
    3. Kick from the hips and not the knees.
    4. You need to breathe on alternate sides.

In my opinion, a few lessons can really make a big difference in how you benefit by swimming. Take a refresher course!

    Good Luck [IMG]

    Re: swimming!

Very effective if done regularly. It's another form of aerobic exercise.
Even just doing 30 min every 2nd day will give you results within a month.

    Re: swimming!

    hi priya,
swimming is very good for weight reduction and to tone up body, 3 sessions of 30 mins each in a week is optimum....to avoid the effects of chlorine on skin, it is good to have a shower just before entering the pool. saturate the skin, hair and swim suit with fresh water in the shower. u can apply a good conditioner on hair before swimming. there are some chlorine neutralising shampoo and conditioner for use after swimming...dont forget to do warm up/stretches before swimming and cooling down after..using ear plugs and drying ears after swimming with cotton buds or alcohol is important to avoid ear infections...
    all the best!

Swimming is good exercise as it won't give much strain on the body because of pressure of water.. it is good for all joints pain too...

    Re: swimming!

One summer, I used to swim every evening for 20 min, I haven't experienced any skin problems. But then again my skin isn't extremely sensitive, and I wore a swimming cap to cover my hair.

Do wear wear a swimming cap, and follow Vidhya Parani's advice
Try for a week - if you skin reacts to the chlorine then try none-chlorinated swimming pools - they are rare but do exist.

    good luck!

PS: forgot to add- wash thoroughly after each session, and dry, and moisturise skin thoroughly
