    HI Dear Mommies,

How do u all convience ur Little One to wear Sweaters, socks and Caps...My DD is 1 year old but i always find difficulty in making her wear the winter suits..its cold here most of the time in bangalore but my Little One is happily enjoying the chillness
I am always scared to see her like that...she has not faced any health issues till now(TOUCHWOOD) but i am scared it wopuld affect her one day and i really cant see that
Socks, she hates becoz she finds them irritating and also difficult to walk(slippery)...now for the past 2-3 days,i used soft booties...that she is conmfortable(i guess) and is not slippery..but cant wear them outside as it would become wet...shoes again if she walks outside, she hates to wear them..she wants to walk with bear foot
Next comes Sweaters, she might wear in case we tell her we are goin out or if she has the mood..but she hates full sleaved sweater...she shouts pulling the sweaters from her body and shouting continues till we remove..
Last and most important CAPS....caps are big NO!!!!...she immediately pulls them off her head ,throws away and shouts...i tried different types of caps...fully covered(monkey caps),normal caps or hat like wollen caps...nothin worked
its really cold here and everyday i make her wear and we both have a big fight and she wins(asusual)
How do u all manage...I know its usual for the Little Ones to behave like this but atleast can someone gimme some tips that had worked for u?
    Please pour in ur suggestions!!!!!!!!!!

    ok no replies ...only views
i guess all mommies are having hard time conviencing their LO for sweaters..
still now DD doesn't allow us to put the sweaters and scarfs on her but when we say we are going out,she is happy and wears all of them without any hesitation...she really has got adjusted with this bangalore climate(colddddddd)...since i dont find problem during the outing,i have left it to her wish...i dont force her with the sweaters unless and untill its damn cold here..here also scarfs she doesn;t allow even if i try to put them after she sleeps(she pulls and throws them away while sleeping...:bonk:)...otherwise if its cold,i just make her wear thick warm clothes (DD not fine with this too but still feels ok after sometime) and booties(nowadays she likes walking with them)

In US, I sometimes find Indian parents in fully decked winter clothing, but children more casual. I think kids adapt to the chillness of the place where they are born a lot better than immigrant parents.

I remember when we were kids - my cousins used to visit us from colder cities in India. In winter months in South - our family used to wear sweaters etc, but my cousins used to roam freely in thin T-shirts. My mom used to worry, but then later realized for them the Southern cities are hardly cold - they feel it is warm.

Toddlers!!! Everything becomes a control thing with them! I have 21 month old who refused to wear a particular jacket this morning. It was subzero temp outside and Her Highness picks this fashionable thin rain coat that she wanted to wear. What did we do? Let her wear her rain coat...told her that she looked very pretty in it and put on the jacket we wanted her to wear over it! One thing I learnt about these little goons is - there is no point in picking up battles that you are destined to loose! Give them choices! Show you LO two or more sweaters and ask to pick one. Oh...if sweaters don't work...try layering. My DD hates blankets in the night. So we put another layer of light weight clothes. Its just as effective.

Socks - Thats a tough one. Especially if they are slippery. If you LO likes the soft-sole booties indoors...let her wear them. For outside get the hard sole ones. My DD's daycare teachers asked me to get an extra pair of hard sole shoes for the outside/play ground use. My DD now understands that to go outside she needs to wear those shoes.

Caps - Another thing that my DD hated since she was a baby. But now..she asks for one before heading out. I think she might have seen us wear ours or other kids in her class wear them. Make sure that the cap you are using is made of soft material. I remember hating those itcy monkey caps as a kid!

    Hope this helps!

    K

Hi Kamala...thanks for your tips..i did try the choosing method but she gives me bck a no nod...she likes to pick some dresses but she can clearly understand and feel the sweaters so till now its a no...recently when we compelled and made her to wear a sweater, next day she dippped it in a tub of water..what an :idea

booties yes its not tough like before...i have kept all her hard booties near our shoe stand and she has started pick the one she wants or atleast shows the slippers asking us to put on her

and caps...boy those are tough...actually she is so very against them that before going out even if she sees us putting something on our head, she removes them, actually she takes them off from our neighbours head too..what to do but while moving out she is wearing them not for long but still if its a short drive, she removes them as soon as she returns:rotfl

I would say if your LO does not want to wear socks/caps just let her be. A little cold will not do any damage. When going out if she insists on going out without a cap/jacket/sweater, you can take one and have it in your hand. Ask her if she is feeling cold. Sometimes kids just want to assert their independence and demonstrate control by saying No. Don't make it a big power struggle. My son refused to wear a cap even when it was snowing here, and is just fine.

I had more trouble convincing my parents and in-laws that he would be fine. They were horrified that he is going out without all the accessories :)

nice info. ya kids here go out casually.

not easy swaran. I have to sing, tickle etc to make her wear jackets. caps were a no-no too until recently. I got a nice cap with some flowers hanging down, now she likes them and wears them.
