hi all, I want to buy things from india which are not available in usa but those things are realy useful in usa or things are too costly... plz share ur ideas
Any spices that you can't find easily , Kesar, different types of Papad, pickles. It depends what is available in your area. Also I buy Pressure cooker, karahi & Tava from India.
Hi, All Indian clothing is a bit costly over here. So do not have a option to buy them here. Also, mixers in USA are not that very good to grind the Indian mas-alas and spies. I got one from India. Apart from that most of the Indian stores have variety of grocery in them . Make sure to get a pressure pan, tawa and few vessels ( say one or two ) to use in the stove top.. There are a lot of storage container available at Ikea or walmart or any super stores , so do not bring them with you. papads, few spies like raw ginger, palm sugar are little rare to obtain here.. If you use them, make sure you get it.
Try getting few spices and herbs(cinnamon, elachi, bay leaf...), small mixie, grinder, Indian dresses, few cosmetic items, some pulses.
My list is also a subset of the items already listed : Indian mixie Indian masala (not the packet ones MTR, Badshah etc are all available in plenty) Anything you make specially at home . Tava for chapati Hot pack for storing chapati Idli Stand/Idlicooker Kadai for frying Indian clothes Any ayurvedic/homopetic medicine or shampoo/soaps/toothpaste Hope this helps
Bindi, kumkum some items used for puja (if you are a believer) Indian clothes - lingerie especially ( u could get better ones here, but it would take sometime to get used to the brands) sandals - you do not get designer ones as like in india, they seems expensive cooking tawa for dosa, chapathi Idli cooker shampoos Mixie Homeo or ayur soaps pickles with bubble pack
Hi, hope my suggestions are not too late for you. Here's the list of things you must get from India: 1. Pressure cooker & Steamer 2. Tava & Kadaai 3. Few light weight plates, bowls, spoons and glasses 4. No need to carry any masalas. There are stores like IGO - Indian grocery store where you can get any masala like turmeric, red chilli powder, MDH packets, etc. However, get kesar if you may need. 5. Shampoo, face wash, creams, medicines, etc if you use any particular brand. I couldn't find the specific loreal shampoo here I used in India for my straightened hair. You can check it's availability on Walmart site to avoid the load. 6. Bed sheets and some hand towels. Getting the above stuff will help you set up the kitchen immediately and hence control the expenses here in the first few weeks as initially you gonna run on a tight budget.
