    Hi All,

I was generally browsing thru when i found this site and registered as It is pretty informative.

Am in US for the past 4 months in H4 visa.

and the usual story begins....that am bored and now thinking of doing MBA.

I am a science student and have no commerce background. So will pursuing MBA be difficult? And also if some one can share tips on GMAT preparation/sites/test papers...it would be great.

    Thanks,
    Arthi

    Hi Arthi,

Go to http://www.GMAC.com. It is the Graduate Management Admission Council's official website. You can start off by going to the library nearest to you and start taking practice tests. Anybody can do MBA, visit this site to know about how stay at home moms are pursuing MBAs to get back on track with their career. Job experience is always a plus towards pursuing the MBA program.

    Hi All,
I would just like to give one suggestion to u guys. As I assume ur going to study MBA and will eventually want to work rite........So I would suggest that by doing MBA u will b getting only 1 year of OPT(that is elgibility to work for any employer without any restrictions) on the other hand if u go for some masters program under STEM programs like MS in computers n others u will be able to work for 2 years on ur OPT......
So this will buy u some time if in case the situation is like the current one where it is difficult to file for H1.......
This is only my suggestion.....I am not sure wht ur goal is like if ull just want to study or work....mayb this will help u'll .....I am sorry if i tried to hurt anyone.....The reason I am sharing is I did my MBA n am facing the same situation...no job...no h1....n visa problem....so I am just letting ull know.....
    Thankyou,
    Regards,
    yavanika.

Do check the curriculum of the MBA courses you are planning to take up. It is available in the university website. That will give you a good idea of course contents.

I just noticed that OP posted this long back. So, I guess she is no longer looking for this info. But, for the benefit of others - I dont belive that not knowing commerce is a huge disadvantage. Infact MBA candidates come from very diverse backgrounds and a lot of them have no prior experience in this field.

    @kotakeerthi,
Congrats on completing GMAT. How did you score? I am currently preparing for my GMAT exams as well. Wish you all the best with application process.

About yavanika's point on STEM courses, that is right. Also, MBA is much more expensive than MS tuition fee.But then think about it,inspite of these reasons, many professionals take sabbatical from their career to secure an MBA degree. The reason is because it is highly valued by employers and is a good return of investment. However, do a thorough analysis of the ranking, repute and career prospects of the MBA. Where you do the MBA makes a huge diff. Getting an MBA from Harvard and getting one from an online program that admits everyone who applies is not the same thing.

Doing your Masters is a big deal. So, weigh in the pros and cons, check out the options in detail and consider if the Masters you want to pursue is the best option to suit your career aspirations and then make a decision.
IMO, it is important to consider your career aspirations also. In the long run it is not a good decision to work-hard for 2 yrs studying something you are not interested in and later work in a job you dont enjoy for the rest of your life.

There is a sticky in the Education forum on pursuing Masters on H4/F1. Do check that. It has a ton of information and has lot of active participants who have done /are doing their Masters in US.
