Increasing core strength strengthens your back/spine. It helps keep you injury free and maintain a good posture. Increasing muscle mass helps burn fat faster. Muscles work on burning more calories and even if you are stationary, muscles will keep burning cals. Muscles weigh the same as fat but they are lesser in volume, so if you have muscle vs fat you look well toned.
women who strength train cannot become bulky or manly. We lack the hormone that makes muscles bulky. So go lift those weights! It's good for you, unless you have an injury that forces you off strength training.

If you don't do anything to replace the lean muscle you lose, you'll increase the percentage of fat in your body .

Strength training can help you preserve and enhance your muscle mass — at any age.
