It is certainly not a bad idea to store the cord blood (for culturing stem cells from, in case of need in future) in a stem cell / cord blood bank, at a nominal cost of 100 dollars per year. But, friends............no one knows the long term results of this concept. As of now, stem cell applications in the treatment of malignancies like blood cancer etc, are still in its stage of infancy. A lot more research has to be done, before it can be done everywhere. In India, in cities like Mumbai and Ahmedabad, there are more failures than successes in the applications of stem cell concept in the field of oncology. I do not have a first hand information about the practical success of this concept in other countries. In the coming years it may turn out to be a big success..........or there are chances that it is just a bubble.......that grows and grows bigger due to sheer popularity.........later on bursting into nothing, when it comes to the actual output (of the concept). As of now, we have to wait and watch with our fingers crossed.
