    Hariji, lot of people can't stand competitin. While lot of pople talk about healthy competition, deep within they feel otherwise. Ask any businessman, he wouold tell you that competition is wasteful. Thew tendency towards conglomerate keeps status anxiety at bay to some extent. I suspect this syndrome particularly affects corporates who are as good as their share prices, If they plummet, so does their status,

    @HariLakhera Sir,

    Please bear with this interruption.

    @Balajee,

    You are right on the money with respect to your comments. The corporate world differentiate performance and the corporate image and the inforamation they need to share publicly. That is why every corporation has a separate investor relations department that promotes the company's image in a positive direction with information that could be positively used in favor of the company. Only the sophisticated investors look at the fundamentals of the company and the most investors go based on publicized information and analysts estimates that give guidances for share value.

    We like it or not, healthy competition is not only natural but desirable also. It helps in constant improvement.
    The problem is when the fall from the top happens. Corporate houses have many games to play and the inherent motive is to earn money and more money. If in the process, their status improves, that is a bonus. Take for example the richest man in the world. No one has stood there forever, and no one has committed suicide on a fall.

    The share market is a complex arena and cunning businessmen know how to manipulate it.
    If something g goes wrong, the worst sufferer is the shareholder and lending banks.
