    Hi Anushiv,
They need not book through a travel agent and go. They can go to udupi directly by bus or any other transport. They can make udupi as the base and visit other places like sringeri, horanadu, dharmasthala, kollur, murudeshwar. In udupi there are very good budget hotels and the hotel itself has a travel desk. They can hire a cab there itself. Or if they want to travel by bus they can look for packages in udupi itself.

    Dear Devotee,

Thanks for the informative reply. well, I've couple of queries to ask you ( since you're from Karnataka).Actually, they wanted to go in Jan/Feb. how will be the climate around that time? will it be cold/rainfall? And from Chennai can they directly go to udupi or do they need to go via Bangalore? Their first preference is to visit sringeri. How long will it take from udupi to sringeri?otherwise, can they go directly from B'lore to srigeri? Are these places which you mentioned (horanadu, dharmasthala, kollur, murudeshwar) are all in same different direction?can they cover all these places in one weeks time?

thank you once again & look forward for your reply!

    Dear Anushiv ma'am

I feel april, may, june is the ideal time to go for a tour like that..I travelled with my parents some two years back to those places..We went to Bangalore and then booked a package tour..It was for five days and covered nearly 25 temples including udipi, dharmasthala, sringeri, murudeshwar, kollur, kukke, mangalore etc., We went in the month of june and that time itself it was raining heavily. Now at this time i heard that its very cold there. And elders will feel better if they travel in summer.

    Love
    Meena

    Dear Meena,

Thanks for the prompt response. Well, I too feel Jan/Feb will be a cold period & of course southwest will start around June. As suggested by you, April will be best time to visit those places. And I guess traveling to all these places from B'lore is the correct route.

    With thanks,
    Anu!!!

    Hi

If you would like to Sringeri, you can plan like this.........
    1) Get down at Mangalore........This would be early in the morning........
    2) Arrange a cab (This can be done from Madras itself) .....From Mangalore to Subrahmaniya.....you can get choultries there just to wash and go to temple......you can have food there.......and also take bath in the river....
    3) From Subrahmaniya to Dharmasthala.......you can reach Dharmasthala by evening. Have Darshan of Lord Manjunath and have food........If you have time before opening of the temple you can see the Bahubali idol.........which is very big in size...........
    4) Same nite u can proceed to Sringeri.......You can book your accomadation in sringeri in advance..........stay at sringeri.....if you want to spend more time at Sringeri you can do that...........In the December season the climate would be cold at nite and early morning but warm dueing day time...........
    5) Start early morming to Horanadu.........Have Darshan of GOlden Annaporni and have breakfast........You can pack lunch and have the same on the way to Kollur.........you will reach kollur in the evening........Good choultries with AC rooms are availble........Have tiffin take bath and go to temple in the evening........you can back at nite after the poojas are over........
6)Instead of the above plan you can go to Horanadu from Sringeri and come back again to Sringeri on the same day........then you can start and proceed to Murudeeshwar and then reach Kollur...........
    7) From Kollur start early and on the way you can go to Udupi and have darshan of Sri Krishna..........buy matthu there and have tiffin in the famous Udupi Woodlands hotel.....(Masal Dosa has its origin here)..........start
    8) Within an hour and half you can reach Katil.........Have Darshan Sree Durga.......Start
    9) You can reach Kadri.........Again here the gods name is Manjunatheeshwar.......Have food and move towards station at mangalore..........return to chennai

We followed this plan to our visit to Sringeri last here and we did not face any hiccups........You can plan to spend more time at Sringeri which is very calm and see the guru performing puja........and also in all these places they serve food in the temple......so in the hotel you get only tiffin items..............We enjoyed the trip........hope you/your inlaws also enjoy.........All the best

    Dear AGR,

Thanks a lot for your vivid post. Well, as of now, we have planned to visit Sringeri & other places in the month of April. Initially, my in-laws wanted to go next month, keeping the climate in the mind they have post-poned their trip to April.

I sincerely thank you once again for a detailed response.

    Dear AGR,

I am planning to take my family to mangalore next weekend to cover the temples near mangalore (udipi, dharmasthala, sringeri and mookambika). Could you please help me in guiding the route to cover all these temples and also please give few pointers on places to stay and also on the cab arrangements. Request your reply.

    Dear anu,

Ksrtc is operating tours on thursdays.tour(from thurday to sunday).

It is difficult for the elderly couple to travel alone as the routes are through western ghats. So better to take ksrtc or any other good operator.

THey cover almost all the places. If you want to see Acharya, then can take a private bus.Otherwise not needed.

Lodging will be good in all these places and food is also provided in all the temples both afternoon and night.

The best time to visit these places is febraury and march acco. to me. april may, sometimes water problem will be there.
JUne is rainy month and It will be very difficult to travel through the western ghats where rains are heavier(agumbe is the second largest rainfall place in india).

Places for halt-Dharmasthala-it will be crowded always(family god for karnataka people) so better to plan in advance,
sringeri--temple lodging is available near the matt and food is very good there.
    mangalore-little expensive.

As Already AGR has given the routes, i am not repeating it.

From bangalore i will tell the route-
Hassan( shravana belagula and other chalukya temples)
    subramanya
    dharmasthala
    shringeri
    horanadu
    mookambiga
    udupi
    mangalore(murudheswar, idagunj, gokarna..)

    Dear Kamala,

Thank you for stepping in. Yes, Next weekend, they are going to sringeri from B'lore only. And they are planning to take up the following route shravana belagula -dharmasthala-shringeri-horanadu-mookambiga-udupi & back to B'lore. They are going to skip many places, as their priority is Sringeri - to see & seek Acharya's blessings. Now my concern is ...over there its election time...hope everything should be normal & peaceful.:-(
