Dear Mrs. Pushpavalli,
People with bad intentions are always there in this world.
How magnanimous Sri Ramanujar was!
we are even not able to forget the bad things happening to us and also the person who made it happen, (sometimes).
that is why he is a saint and we are human beings!

Dear Sriniketan,
What you have said is quite true. Though we could not become saints, at least we should strive to be good humans. There is a saying, " To forgive is human, to forget is Divine."
Love,
Pushpavalli

Yaghyamurthi Challenging Ramanuja to win him in debate

Ramanuja’s name and fame spread out all over the country. There was one mayaavaadhi called Yaghyamurthi who was propagating mayavadh in north <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />India. He came to know that Ramanuja was propagating Vishistathvaitham at south India. He became jealous of Ramanuja. He wanted to defeat him in debate. Hence he traveled to Srirangam. He used to carry a full load of books in a cart to show that he was a man of letters. After reaching Srirangam he invited Ramanuja for a debate in Maayaavaadh sasthras, Ramanuja told him with a smile that he accepted Yaghyamurthi as a great person in maayaavaadh and so no question raised for a debate. Then Yaghyamurthi asked him whether he was willing to accept Maayaavaadh and stop propagating Vishistathvatham. Ramanuja told him that Maayaavaadh kept people in a messed up state. Hence he could neither accept it nor follow it. Then Yaghyamurthi told him, in that case Ramanuja had to accept the challenge and should win him over debate. Yaghyamurthi was really superb in debate and so the debate continued for seventeen days.Yaghyamurthi had the upper hand in the debate till then. Ramanuja was unable to defeat him and so he beseeched PeraruLala Perumal to help him.
That night PeraruLala Perumal appeared in his dream. He told Ramanuja not to lose heart. He told him that the person who was opposing him would soon become his disciple. He advised him to quote examples from his guru ALavandar’s book that condemned Maayaavaadh and that would lead him to success in the debate.
Next morning when Ramanuja Woke up his face looked like a freshly bloomed lotus. He prayed Lord PeraruLaLa PerumaL and his guru Alavandar. When he went to face Yaghyamurthi for the debate his face shone with koti Surya prkasam. Yaghyamurthi was astonished to see his face. He felt that Ramanuja had possessed Divine qualities and great wisdom. He was ashamed to think that all these days due to his mamakaram (ego) he did not realize this. Even before Ramanuja opened his mouth, he prostrated before him and Ramanuja was astonished to see his behaviour. He asked him sweetly what was the reason for this and why he had not started the debate. Then Yaghyamurthi replied that all along he was blind with ego thinking that he was the most learned man. But Ramanuja’s vast knowledge, his humility, and his sweet nature made him to shun his ego.
He requested him to accept him as his disciple.
Ramanuja felt that the sea-change in Yaghyamurthi’s behaviour was due to the benevolence of PeraruLaLa PerumaL only. He accepted Yaghyamurthi as his disciple and performed the Pancha samskaras to him. He also rechristened him as “ AruLaLaperumanar.” Ramanuja also told him that as he had vast knowledge, he should write in Tamil to spread it to all. Yaghyamurthi who was now known as AruLaLaperumanar wrote ‘Ghyana Saram’ and ‘Prameya Saram’ in Tamil. A mutt also was constructed for him separately. Ramanuja also sent some srivaishnavas as his disciples. Ramanuja taught Yaghyamurthi Nalayira Divya Prabandam and Thirup Pallandu and bade him to do kaimkaryam to Lord Varadaraja. There after he was known as Devaraja Muni also.

Dear Mrs. Pushpavalli,
Enjoyed reading this article!
I have one doubt, what 'maayaavaadh' mean?

Dear Mrs.Pushpavalli,
Is Maayavaadh Tatvam nearly the same as "Advaitam"? If not, how it is different?
This is what came to my mind, when reading the explanation for the 'maayavaadh tatvam'.

Sorry for the trouble!

Dear Sriniketan,
Your assumption is good as well as mine. Advitam and maayaavadh Tatvam are same. Yadava Prakasa, the first guru of Ramanuja was an Advaidi and so he was also propagating Maayaavadh. But I have very meagre knowledge and had not studied anything under an acharya. The megre knowledge that I have is only by reading books. Hence there might be flaws in my narration. Please bear with me.
Love,
Pushpavalli

Dear Mrs. Pushpavalli,
I asked my aunt about Maayaavadh. She told me it related to Buddhism where they say that everything is maaya and so on. But she told me that she will clarify with her teacher and let me know the exact meaning of that, which i will eventually let you know too.
