Hi Friends! I am planning to buy a split A/c for my parents in Kerala. Which do you from your experience say is the best split unit. It is a flat and I would like to fix two units , one for the hall and other for the bedroom (200 sq.ft). I need proper cooling. The weather in Kerala is very hot and humid! Please advise! Thanks in advance!

    Swasal,

Before you make a decision find out which brand offers the best service in the town where your parents are. You don't want them running behind the service guys if there is a problem. As you know AC requires some maintenance so also find out if the vendors offer AMCs in the area and the cost.

In Bombay I have used LG, Samsung and Voltas. All are good and all have decent service. The best service I got was from Voltas and the worst (relatively) was from Samsung. I haven't used Onida, but some friends have and they were not happy with the product or the service.

One more thing, when you decide the tonnage of the AC go for one which is slightly more than the requirement. E.g. if the room requires a 1 ton AC go for 1.2 tons. The room cools faster and the compressor works for a less period of time in the long run it saves power.

I have LG in the Master BR since 3 years and Onida in the 2nd BR installed 1 year back in my flat at Hyd. Both are in excellent condition.
