South Indian meal plan for cholesterol

    Hi all,

    I have to reduce my cholesterol level as it's too high. Can anyone help me with a South Indian meal plan for reducing my cholesterol? Do anyone know of any indian dietitian near Hartford,CT?

    Number will really help in judging. Get yourself involved in some activities in walking/jogging, sports like badminton.

    Sorry I don't have the nos with me....the doc spoke with my husband ...all she said is that I have high cholesterol and very high triglycerides...she told its high time we take action..

    Hi OP,

    Since I am a north indian , can not suggest you on south indian diet plan but would like to suggest you some generic used tips. 2 months back my DH had very high cholesterol and triglyceride (TG was 460 and because of high TG M/c couldn't count cholesterol). Below is the changes we did in out meal/daily routine (if you want can search my other thread for detail)

    1 - started using 3-4 raw garlic pods with meal.Eating raw garlic is l'll difficult so you can cut garlic 5-10 min before and dip in lemon juice (I was doing it before making chapathi)
    2- stop/reduce the quantity of whilte items (white rice, pasta, white bread etc)
    3 - Changed cooking oil. Now I am using canola oil.
    4- In night started taking mixture of fenugreek seed+black cummins+ Ajwain with warm water.

    Please search my other thread about high cholesterol where many Ilites have given wonderful tips.

    My DH did his blood work exactly after 1 month of above and Dr said his numbers are acceptabe and asked us to continue same remedy.

    Are you nuts.. just kidding.. eat lot of nuts like almonds, pecans, walnuts (not sure about peanuts & kaju though)....
    Avoid white rice.. boiled rice is better
    Rotis & Chapatis with whole wheat or multi-grain.. you need lot of fiber
    Avoid paneer.. replace it with Tofu..
    Spinach (palak) atleast twice a week..
