    dear kalyanishati

Coming to your point on Protein rich diet.I have been looking at meat alternatives for quite some time and was suprised to find that
dals are not a substitute for protein rich diet.
By looking at the nutrtional content for Tuvar dal (staple protein in most indian household) I was suprised to find that a cup of dal has twice the amount of carbohydrate compared to the protein.
Here is the link for the nutritional content.

Calories in toor dal - Nutrition Facts and Information - carbs, fat, protein
I have researched on Moong dal and Besan dal but they too have higher carb than protein

Based on my research,The only true protein alterative I found is SOY.
SOY has protein double the amount of the carbs. So I think for Vegetarians
SOY is the true staple source of protein and not the Dals as we traditionally thinkso .

We cook 1 cup or 11/2 cup of toor dal for a household of 4 for the sambar
and have it with idly, dosa or rice.Sometimes this same preparation is had for 2 meals and we assume we had the protein supplement for the day while all the while we would have had a very meger amount in the form of protein
and actually taking in more carbs form the dal too :confused2:

Try AMWAY products for Protein powder - its way better than other protein powders available in medical stores because it is easily absorbs into body and doesn't feel heavy.
It costs around 2000 rs for a can i guess.
Also their iron folic acid tablets are too good.

Taking in plenty of water will keeps the acids on check and take away the toxins from the body.Initally it will be hard to drink a lot of water but slowly we can get used to it .

This is the link for nutritional facts on TOFU.
Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Tofu, firm, prepared with calcium sulfate and magnesium chloride (nigari)

SOY comes in different forms and texture based on the process and preparation so the nutritional facts will differ a lot.

This nutritional fact for TOFU is fairly consistent in U.S market.

In India the TOFU consistency is different.I dont remember the nutritional facts on it.

When I was a kid my mom would make a mouthwatering dish with Soy chunks and brinjal .I dont know if the soy chunks are still available in the market and
this could also be a good protein substitute if the carb content is relatively less.

Thank you so much, Dear Janavi...

I was also of the misconception abt daals. Thank you for enlightening...

Yes, I do take soy, but may not be in sufficient amount - have to check that.

Regarding AMWAY protien powder - I have been taking it regularly for last one year.

Water intake - may not be too good, but reasonably ok

Thanks for your share and suggestions:bowdown
