Today something happened in my office cab. For your info I travel 40 kms from home to office daily (dont ask me why? There are several reasons!).So almost 3 hours of traveling time with colleagues sitting in the cab. Lots of chit chats and talking. There are equal number of men and women in my cab.
What happened today was- somebody said that (a male colleague) he has to wash clothes when he returns home..and see how his working wife makes him work! And how God had designed men and women to be different and how things are moving now! That raised my BP!

Then after some time it was me in the cab who was talking how wome were unfairly being treated just because they are women! She has to cook, be gharelu, and be working also! And if you are a housewife, then you are majority time taken for granted. And that if India wants to develop then women should be treated at par and no man should shy away from doing household chores, after all women are doing jobs outside too! ALl the women in the cab were agreeing but were shy...and hesitant. At the end of the journey, the men had declared me to be woman's lib voice who was simply lucky to have a hubby who support me. :bowdown (bechara kya karega...he has a lioness as his wife!)

Of course I expected this reaction, India still has a long way to go (me despite being in a metro) and women, esp working women have tremendous performance pressure, inside home and outside as well!

Just wanted to share my thoughts with the bright bunch of Ilites who have all contributed to my being so empowered! These colleagues (who are otherwise nice) now are funnily acting and saying- nari mukti zindabad!

yeah priya... some boys/men are such !! they feel doing household chores is an insult . After all he was washing HIS clothes.. Just brush this issue off your mind. Its not women liberation or something that you spoke. Tell him next time no scriptures ever mentioned women should wash clothes and cook and men should go to work... On the contraty any woman/girl would love their husband to the core if he helps her in daily chores. Thats actually masculinity in my view...a Man who can understand a woman...understand her pains and troubles and help her ...(be it in household or whatever trouble she faces).. is masculinity. I think any woman would love such kind of men

Very rightly put Priya.
My DH is also very helpful and does not mind sharing house work...in cooking or hanging clothes or cleaning vessels whatever.. since both of us work and come back tired...thats how an understanding husband should be...and feel proud to have such a lovely gift from god...I do !!

Btw priya when he next time taunts you saying you got a lucky husband who supports you... taunt him back saying "how unlucky is your wife for getting you as husband !!!! "

What's wrong in husband and wife helping each other?? Even if the wife does not work and husband helps her in someways then what is the wrong in that?? If they both are happy then what for the rest of the world??

Next time they try to tease you by saying nari mukti zindabad, you say 'Hey, guys be prepared!! Your days of dominance are coming to and end and you guys will be kicked your a$$ off if you do not mend your ways!!!

Foreget about what other men/boys are telling about his " washing" clothes.

What his mother says about it. I am sure she will criticise this act and would say daughter in law should do it.

So women (MILs) themselves do not accept that men (husbands) should work at home equally with women (wives).

Tx ladies for taking the time and replying. Yes, ushae...women are women's basic enemies :drowning! perhaps that is why men have the actual fun and we simply don't! But glad that things are gradually changing! Getting info onto forums like these can go a long way. yes, Sai and Tara..I am prepared with smart quips for narrow-minded men now...tx!

Priya I have 3 babies at home to handle... 2 are in that age group & 1 is in that forced mental setup.. cant help all these years.

However on a caution note... avoid discussing femenist topics with colleagues, when you know a male person is a chuvanist, he wont change with x amount of inputs & these discussions at time end up into HR resolutions... more so if you have a direct dealing with such people in your team... they end up keeping you on their hit list.
