    krishna temple

    Hello All
Sri Navaneetha Krishnar Temple - Dodda mallur

    Sri Aravindavalli Thaayar :
[IMG] This is the sannidhi of Sri Aravindavalli Thaayar. As Goddess Maha Lakshmi was born in a Lotus flower in Vishnu Theertham (to the North West of the temple), she is known as Aravindavalli. She is seated in the Padmasana posture on a Lotus. Thaayar is giving darshan with her chaturbhujams, holding Lotus flowers in the two upper hands and blessing devotees with two hands in Varadha and Abhaya postures. In the same Sanctorum you will find idols of Sri Andal Thaayar and Sri Desikan.

    Sri Navaneetha Krishnar :
As you proceed to the North Western ramparts of the temple, the next Sannidhi you see is that of the renowned Lord Navaneetha (Thavazrar/ambegal(crawling))Krishna. This Krishna figures in a lot of Puranams. It is believed that Sage Vyasa did the Prathishta of this Vigraham. This lovely, adorable Krishna Vigraham depicts Him in a crawling pose, holding his favourite butter in his right hand. It appears as if Lord Krishna is crawling towards you to invoke the maternal instincts within you, compelling you to spontaneously shower your love on him. His face is like Poorna Chandra Bimbam, his doe-like eyes are very attractive and the curly locks of his hair are a sight to behold. This Neela Megha Shayma is crawling on a Garuda Peetam. He is adorned with a lot of jewels like amulets, chains, necklaces and anklets. He flaunts his Pulinagam (Tiger Claws dollar) as if to show off his prowess while the priests make sure he wears it to avoid Kan Dristi Dosham from his many devotees ogling at his boundless beauty! While drinking in this lovely sight, you may think you heard the jingling of bells from the cord he wears around his waist and the gorgeous anklets adorning his tender ankles, as he crawls closer to your heart!!
[IMG] His beauty inspired Purandara dasa to compose the popular krithi "Jagadoddharana Adisidalu Yashoda" when he visited this sannidhi.
The delicious Navaneetham he is holding in his right hand is no ordinary butter but Gnyanam (self realization) shaped like a butterball. Parandhaman is willing to share this precious treat with you, if only you ask him for it, with a true mind.
Another boon that this God is famous for granting is the gift of children to those who need it. The loads of silver and wooden cradles in the Sannidhi offered by people desirous of begetting offspring stand testimony to this fact.
Lord Aprameya (also known as Sri Ramaprameya) :
[IMG] You are now in the divine presence of the majestic looking moola moorthy of Lord Sri Aprameya made of Saligrama Shila. It is an ancient Idol of the Lord. 'Prameya' means measurable quantity, Aprameya means immeasurable and since his mercy is of immeasurable quantity, he is called so.
His two upper arms are holding the Shanka and Chakra and in the lower two arms are the Gadha and Padma in the Abhayahastam mudra.
The Shukanasika Mantapam houses Lord Aprameya’s Uthsavar in a sandalwood Mantapam. He is bedecked with jewelry. This Uthsavar is a replica of the Moolavar and is extremely beautiful. Uthsavar is accompanied by Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi thayars. The Divine trios are accompanied by an Uthsavar Moorthy of Lord Ramanuja and it appears as if he is doing Kainkaryam to the Trinity.
    Sri Rama Temple :
[IMG]Then if you come out of Lord Aprameya temple and walk a few feet you will find Lord Rama’s temple.
On entering the temple, you are lead into a big Hall with three sannidhis. The central sanctum sanctorum is the Sannidhi for Sri Rama. The special feature of this temple is Lord Rama and his consort Sita Devi are in a sitting posture. To the left of Sri Rama, is Lakshmana in a standing posture doing namaskaram to them and it looks as if he is waiting for Sri Rahuvaran’s command. Lord Anjaneyar is seen doing pada sevai to the feet of Lord Sri Rama
    Sri Venugopala :
To the left of Sri Rama's sannidhi is the garbha griham for Lord Venugopala who gives darshan to his devotees with four hands (which is unusual). His upper two arms are holding Shanka and Chakra and in the lower arm he flaunts his flute.
To the right of Sri Rama's sannidhi is the Sannidhi of Lord Sudharshana Lakshmi Nrusimha. The devotee can see Sri Sudarshanar on the back of Sri Nrusimhar. It is rare to find Sudharshana and Lakshmi Nrusimha Moorthy in one Idol.

    Re: Temples for special prayers

    Hi all,

Now i am giving the details of Kalahasti which is famous for Kala sarpha dhosha pooja.
This ancient temple dedicated to Lord Siva is one of the panchabhootha stalams (temples celebrating Lord Siva as the embodiment of the primary elements), air being the element in case here, the other five temples being Tiruvannamalai (fire), Chidambaram (space), Thiruvanikkaval (water) and Kanchipuram (earth) respectively. Sri Kalahasthi is located near the pilgrimage town of Tirupathi and is visited by thousands of pilgrims.
The temple is also associated with Rahu and Kethu (of the nine grahams or celestial bodies in the Indian astrological scheme). The river Suvarnamukhi takes the northerly course at Sri Kalahasthi almost washing the west wall of the famous Sri Kalahasthi temple in the Chittor district of Andhra Pradesh. Inside this very large temple situated between two steep hills - Sripuram and Mummidi-cholapuram - is the Sivalinga set to represent the element of Vayu (air or wind), whose presence is evident by a continuous flame which flickers though there is no loophole for air to enter the temple.
Sri Kalahasthi Temple is in fact considered as the Kailash of the south or Dakshin Kailash. The protector of devotees, the granter of boons, the merciful Lord Siva, the Three-eyed, manifested in the form of Vayu linga in the Bilwaka grove on the banks of river Suvarnamukhi. Lord Siva, manifest in the form of Vayu linga, is known to the devotees as Sri Kalahastheeswara.

Srikalahastheeswara swamy Temple is reputed as the Rahu–Kethu Kshetra. If the people who have Rahu Kethu Doshas, Graha Doshas and Serpa Doshas the unmarried and No Children and those who are facing various problems for a long period perform the most effective Rahu -Kethu Serpa Dosha Nivarana Pooja in this temple all the Doshas get removed and desired results occur. Thousands of devotees from the country and abroad perform this poojas and fulfill their vows again and again after receiving good results

please visit the site http://www.srikalahasthi.com/index.html for more details.

    Hai Krithika,
I had been to the Sree Kalahastri Temple a few times. The temple authorities organise the parihara pooja in a very good manner. Parihara pooja timings are announced from time to time and pooja is held in many small areas segregated for this purpose.
People who have taken tickets are seated in the halls and a priest directs the person who is doing the pooja thro a public announcement system. We did the pooja for my son.
Also the archana for the main deity is done outside the main praahaaram by a priest, who makes us recite the names and stars of our family members and does the archana well.
No need the say that the Shiva idol and Ambal Idol are a feast to the eyes and the soul, I can still see them if I close my eyes.

    Re: Temples for special prayers

    hi all,

The fourth temple in this thread "Masani Amman"

NESTLED AMIDST emerald grasslands and interlaced with criss-cross pathways and rivulets against the backdrop of blue hills lies the holy shrine of Goddess Masaniamman gracing the devotees. It is located at the spot where the river Aliyar and the stream Uppar meet.
Situated at a distance of 15 miles from Pollachi, this sacred shrine attracts a large number of devotees, particularly women. There are several uncommon features about this shrine. The temple serves as a welfare government listening to the grievances of the public, as a clinical dispensary remedying the physical ills of people and as a court of justice relieving the distress of men and women.
Devotees record their aspirations, claims and hopes on a piece of paper and submit it to the temple priest to be placed on the trident of the deity. It is firmly believed that the Goddess responds to their prayers within a period of 19 days. There is a stone image in the temple representing the Goddess of Justice with the body of a serpent. This is popularly known as `Neethi Kal' (stone of justice). People harassed by enemies, merchants meeting with loss in business or men and women who have lost their belongings, take bath, sport holy ashes of the shrine and then grind chillies in the stone grinder of the temple and smear the paste on the so called `Neethi kal'. In the sanctum sanctorum, the sprawling image of Masaniamman lying on her back, measures 15 feet from head to foot. It is a giant sized stucco work painted in flamboyant colours.
What fascinates one is not only the size of the image but also the posture of it. Nowhere else can one see the image of the Goddess in a lying posture. The deity has four hands - two placed on the ground and two raised above. While the top left hands hold a skull and a snake, the two right hands hold a tiny drum and a trident.
In front of the sanctum sanctorum is a niche wherein is enshrined Mahamuniappan. The temple claims both legendary and historical origin. Legend relates that during his wanderings in search of Sita, before setting out to Sri Lanka, Rama stayed in Anaimalai in a graveyard, when he modelled an image of the Goddess in clay and worshipped it. Pleased with his devotion, Masaniamman bestowed upon him Her grace for his triumph over Ravana.
Since the Goddess was reclining in a graveyard, she assumed the appellation of `Shmasani' (The word `Shmasan in Sanskrit denotes the graveyard). With the passage of time, the name Shmasani became Masani.
The historical background of the temple is as follows: Anaimalai known as Nannur in ancient times was ruled by a chieftain called Nannan. There was a dense grove of mango trees belonging to him. Appointing checkpost officials, he had proclaimed punitive measures against trespassers.
An unfortunate young woman who was bathing in the river Aliyar in the vicinity of the grove stumbled upon a mango fruit coming to her, floating on the water. Unable to resist the temptation, she at once picked it up and bit it. The prying officials reported the news to the ruler instantly.
The hapless woman was produced before the chieftain with her clothes dripping water. She pleaded not guilty and prayed to the Lord to be set free. She explained that she never committed any offence; if at all it was considered an act of stealth, it was more by chance than by choice. But the ruler did not relent and ordered her execution.
Filled with fury and indignation, the kith and kin of the ill- fated woman were in arms against the unscrupulous chieftain and killed him in a battle near Vijayamangalam. Soon a temple was built for the woman, commemorating her martyrdom. Devotees flock to the temple in large numbers on Tuesdays and Fridays as well as on Krithigai and Newmoon day. Kundam festival is associated with the shrine. Every year on New moon day of the Tamil month, `Thai', the temple flag is hoisted. On the 14th day at 3 a.m., special worship is performed for the deity. On the 16th day comes the Chithirai Ther festival. At 10 p.m. the holy fire of the kundam is lighted. On the 17th day at 9 a.m. devotees, in great excitement and frenzy jump into a fire pit sprawling to a staggering length of 50 feet for fire-walking. On the 18th day, the flag is lowered and `Mahamuni Pooja' is performed. On the 19th day holy anointment takes place (maha abhishekam).
