Dear friends, The srilankan recipes that I give here are very tasty............. most of the dishes are based on coconuts, those who like coconut can try these Pol Sambol (its a dry one, can be eaten with rotis, chappatis, and hot rice) 1 cup fresh grated coconut 3 to 4 green chillies or red chillies few curry leaves 8 to 10 small onions salt to taste 1 tsp lemon juice 1. Grind the coconut, chillies, curry leaves 2. Add small onions and grind for few seconds 3. Add lemon juice and mix it well and serve
Dear Padma, i read your thread and was very excited....i have lived in Srilanka for a couple of years and i learned a few recipes too....... Carrot Sambol is the same as above except that u can use carrot instead of full coconut.It is very tasty......half carrot and half cocnut and the rest would be the same. cheers, Uma
Vallarai Keerai Sambol This is very good for children as this greens improves memory power 1 cup vallarai keerai finely chopped few small onions cut into fine pieces 3 tsp grated fresh coconut salt and pepper to taste 1tsp lemon juice mix all the ingredients with a spoon and pour the lemon juice it can be eaten raw with sambar rice or chappatis
Dear Padma, Do u know how to make Sodhi? I have the recipe and have made it alsnly thing is that it uses a lot of coconut..so i avoid....Srilankan dishes are full of coconut right?But i love them....it is a very beautiful place....... Cheers, Uma
Hi Padma, Thanks for the new recipes. In my home my mom used to do that coconut sambol. One srilankan lady who was my father's patient taught us that. We call it "Thengai Sambal" in tamil. We like it very much. It goes very well with a dish called "Arisi Rotti" which is thicker than dosai. Made of rice and coconut alone. I have no idea about the proportion if you know about it please share that too. Else i will try to get it from my mom asap. Thanks again.
