Lord Krishna killed many demons, including:
Keshi: A horse-demon who was killed by Krishna when he thrust his left arm into the demon's mouth

Vyomasura: A sky demon who was killed by Krishna when he was thrown against the earth

Śaṅkhacūḍa: A jealous asura who was killed by Krishna in a fight

Cāṇūra: A pugilist asura who was killed by Krishna in a wrestling match

Putna: A demon who disguised herself as a woman and tried to poison Krishna, but he drank her milk and killed her

Shaktasur: A ghost demon who was killed by Krishna when he was kicked in the form of a cart

Trinavarta: A tornado demon who was overpowered by Krishna

Vatsasura: A calf demon who was killed by Krishna when he was thrown onto a tree

Bakasura: A giant stork demon who was killed by Krishna when he broke its beak

Agasura: A huge snake demon who was killed by Krishna

Arishtasura: A bull demon who was killed by Krishna when he was thrown and thrashed

Narakasura: A powerful asura ruler who was killed by Krishna and his wife Satyabhama with the Sudarshana Chakra
    My question:
When Lord Krishna put an end to so many demons, why do we celebrate the slaying of only Narakasura? Is it because Narakasura is the only demon that Krishna killed as a joint venture with his consort Satyabhama?
Traditionally man represents matter and woman is the Shakthi. Each needs the other to be functional.

Kudos to you Sir for your in-depth demon vadham (trounce) analysis and the reason for celeb only one aura leaving aside all other asuras. I agree both powers in equal measures are required to sustain life. In every atom electron or electrons in orbits because proton I.e. Shakthi is at its centre! I am here because of Sathyabama I.e. my spouse who takes great care to feed me carefully with nourishing food so that I remain strong to encounter demons indoors and outdoors!

That reminded me of another snake Asura and the lord krishna idol at my village temple.
I am from oothukadu village near kumbakonam. The village is famous for its Kalinga Nardhanar Temple. The idol is special here because the dancing Krïsnã standing on his right toe over the head/shroud of demon kalinga of almost three feet length and snake taper end is held by Left hand of Krisna.

The metal idol of about less than three feet long reported found in a nearby lake. For more info

Addendum to my feed back #4
By zooming in one could clearly see the left foot of Lord standing over the shroud of snake demon Kalinga.

    Dear Cheeniya Sir,

Because he asked for a boon from Sathyabama (an incarnation of Bhoomidevi) before his death, requesting that people celebrate his death with lights. The day he was killed is celebrated as Naraka Chathurdashi and considered as beginning of Deepavali, the festival of lights. He wanted his death to symbolize the triumph of good over evil and asked for it to be celebrated with lights.

There is also an interpretation that when Narakasura was killed it should be considered as killing of an evil person but killing of all evil acts he could perform in future which he did while he was alive. Even when Krishna killed Shishubala, Duryodhana was arguing it was unfair that Krishna killed an athithi of Pandavas for which Krishna argued, "I only liberated him from all evil acts".

On this auspicious Deepavali day, we learn forgiveness of evil acts of others, to only consider the acts of evil as enemy and not the person who commits evil acts, and pledge to remove all evil thoughts in our mind.

When we light the lamp of love in our homes, we make an effort to remove our ignorance in a symbolic way. By distributing sweets to our family and friends, we symbolize to share love with everyone around us. When we take oil bath, we take an oath to remove all our evil thoughts and when we bust crackers, we take it as a symbol of removal of all evil actions. By wearing new clothes, we symbolize becoming a newly born with better qualities.

    Happy Diwali Sridhar!
I really missed you at the wedding of my granddaughter.
Coming to your FB here, I had the following FB through my mail here.

    I think
All other asuras were sent by kamsa to kill only Sri Krishna.
Narakasura inflicted harm to all on earth and in heaven too. When Bhagwan killed him as requested by Devas there was joy everywhere.
It is said that narakasura / his mother bhumadevi in the form of sathyabama requested that his day of death can be celebrated by people every year.
It is also said that narakasuran had a boon that he can be killed only by his mother.
Any way it is the day of triumph if good over evil.

I happened to read another discourse review as per which the festival of lights began in Krithea yuga. It was Ammavasya Day in tamil month Aippasi when Godess Lakshmi emerged at the end of churning of the Milky Ocean with her palms carrying the nectar . The Asuras and Devas were on either side lined up while the Devi carried the pot . "Avali"
means "line-up" signifies she was welcomed with diyas lit sequentially by devas, saints & others. This is the reason this festival is aka Lakshmi Puja.
During Thretha yugha Ravana was vanquished by (The Army of) lord Rama on Vijaya dasami day and returned to Ayodhya on Aipassi Ammavasya day and hence Ayodhya celebrates this event by burning effigy of Ravana and this celebration too is known as Deepavali .
In Dwapara yugha a day prior to Aippasi Ammavasya
LORD KRISHNA fought with demon king Narakasura who stole Indira's glorious White Umbrella & HIS mother's ear-rings. Since Indira prayed & beseeched the Lord Krishna to get him the stolen items, Krishna with his consort Sathyabama fought and defeated the demon king.
I wonder what made Narakasura to pray to God at his last breath that people who do Ganga snan before dawn on aippasi ammavasya and pray to God should get their sins negated .
Since time immemorial yugha after yugha people have early morning hot showers (in corporation water of metros )
after anointing their head and body with edible oil. Sins washed off accumulated in seas and oceans. But ignorance aka darkness still rock the mankind.
