    Dear stillwaters,
You are right-the monetary aspect was secondary to the ethics of avoiding wastage. It was way of life under code of conduct and economic compulsions.

    Dear LN,
This is what branded as Indian mentality.
When buying vegetables pleading for kosuru has its own thrill and pleasure and also bargaining for extra rebate also gives immense satisfaction.
The sad part is that I shy away from these and so bereft of these pleasures.
    PS

    hi lakshiminarayan,

that was a wonderful post,it reminds me the way i used to clean the jam bottle when its almost done, in spite of papa having a new one in his hand i used to go on and on cleaning it like anything..although most of it is smeared all over my face.
i just dont know why at that tender age i was so curious not to waste even the last speck of jam in the bottle, probably its the liking that urges you not to waste...! hope we all develop a liking for mother nature and lessen wasting her resouses

    Dear PS,
There are experts in pleading for kosuru. There are of course people who shy away from such practice. It is always a pleasure to come with a bunch of karuveppilai or even one bhendi for sambhar which we have not paid for.

    Dear Santoshini,
There is nothing like licking the last smear from a jam bottle or finishing off an icecream cone. You are right. You do it till the law of diminishing utility takes over.

    Dear yellow mango,
What a wonderful way of creating your own enjoyment of simple pleasure. The trees and shrubs growing in hillocks show that they can be grown any where with a little bsoil and care.
    Thanks and regards

    Good evening Sir,
Excellent article. Whenever my soap is reduced to the last bit when u can no longer catch it in hands i take a new soap and after using it for a day or two i stick the used one to it. I feel very happy that the soap is being used to the last bit.
I enjoyed reading and knowing that others also do these kind of small things.
    Way to go Sir.
