    Hi

    thanks for the tips.

Here i am adding one: Dont put napthelene balls directly in silk saris. It will spoil the cloth.

Remember to take your silk sarees out and unfold them periodically to let them air. Then, when you refold the silk saree, don't fold on the exact same creases as before. This help prevent the silk from shattering (getting holes) on the fold creases.
Also, this should be done with any saree with real zari on it, too.

As for the OP question of which is the best option for storing the sarees, I would say it all depends on how often you wear them. If not too often, then probably in the dhoti in suitcase, to leave room in the almirah for things worn more frequently.

    Hi,

I was searching for threads on how to maintain silk sarees and got this thread. Can you please advise , how often should I wash silk sarees.

Like I bought the silk sarees during November / December 2008 for my marraige in Feb 2009.

After marriage , I wore them for 4 or 5 occasions like relatives marriages / functions at home etc..

I have not washed the sarees even once after marriage.

As cissyboo pointed out I take the saree out fold them in a different crease and also sometimes inside-out and keep them in and later take out and change the folds. The zaris are original. The sarees are a bit expensive also carry sentimental value..

Kindly advise , when should I wash/ dry clean the sarees next? (MIL says once you dry-clean a saree , it loses the new look and becomes dull. )

Also I am keeping the sarees in plastic covers and keeping inside the zipped bags that came with new blankets/ mattresses..

Also kept the napthalene balls outside the plastic wrappers..

    Is this right?

    Thanks in advance.

Plastic bag is a no no for silk sarees. Wrap it in Dhoti.
If the sarees are not dirty you don't have to get them drycleaned.
